crap sentence which I hate to hear: How deep you love me depending on the size of the rock.

Someone told me this, the price of the proposal ring have to be 3 times what the you earn:angry:... (crap)

That was my sentiment too... before marriage! :bsmilie:

As men, we may never quite understand the woman's point of view, but I'm guessing the quality and impressiveness of the darn rock means a lot to them.

Citing the instance of my wife; she doesn't buy expensive, branded or luxurious things for herself (her only hobbies and things she does when she's free are bake, and garden). But when it came to the issue of the rock after engagement years ago, while she made it very clear she was happy with whatever I could afford (then), there was no mistaking in her eyes the occasional envy when she compared the rock to her friends / sisters-in-laws etc.

So there you have it. While it's nice to be unwavering in our principles of love, I think there's a very realistic dimension in this regard here. Or that's what my experience has told me anyway. :)

A materialistic bent more like it and the need to compare it with the Jones. Sorry but hey...to each their own. I am not saying I will not buy. I have bought more then my fair share in fact though it borders on being unfair most times on hind sight. Personally, there is a thin line between buying it as you feel she deserve it and give in to getting her or buying a bigger one just so it is up to "par" to work off some self esteem issues. Maybe that is more what I meant for me. I do know of women and even my mom who feel that way. The notion of placing too much emphasis on the material items and so much less on the real matters of the heart. Anyway, we live with who we married I guess.

I think this will be better place to discuss such thing.. haha over here, I can hear everyone comments.

I am a bit surprise we do have lot of supporter who will buy stone for lady...

Of course it is worth, but it must be within my budget, (3 time what i earn is too much).

Worth or not, really very individual.
L-lens, Kit lens still can take photo,
Rolex, casio both also can tell time,

Photography is only one of my hobby, but my partner is the one that will with me through the rest of my life.

If that diamond can be brighten the day of your love one, why not.

For investment? NO... the resale value is hopeless. Probably get slightly more than 1/3 of its market value.

But for important occasions, YES, depending on your budget! Honestly, till today. Haven't met a lady who isn't keen on the bloody rock!

is that lady your wife liao ? ;)

then can buy her a nice P&S that you can also use,
then next year can buy her a gitzo tripod, small and light (that you can also use)
how about a nice billingham bag to put her camera and tripod in
not forgetting a Dry cabi

Sekali she gets hooked on photography major big time, and decides that no, it's too inconvenient to share equipment. And worst still, kenar influence by evilz people and insists on a different brand. And she decides she wants to do birding, and spends entire weekends in the bush. Of course, with you driving her and carrying all the equipment.

For wedding you definitely need one. Even if she is not the materialistic type imagine how she will look if she has to explain to all her friends / relatives when they ask her how come she not wearing a diamond ring after the wedding? Just like how you will have a minimum standard as to what to wear to suntec, there should also be a minimum standard as to what you should get when proposing to your gf. You don't have to buy a 100k ring but should be a reasonable size, color, clarity and whatever other c there is....

actually hor, diamond rings does not cost very much you know

especially if she does not know how to grade the diamonds
