Hi,
I sympathize the situation that you are in. Not to add salt on your wound. There is nothing you can really do about it. As it is some verbal & agreed transaction, no recipe stating the refund or whatsoever.

Off topic abit. I had similiar situation that paid for a renovation work with no job done & after going through all the hassle of going to Small Claim Tribunal he still owes me 2K plus EVEN there is a court order!

So, juz wish you luck that CSC can clean it for you. However, this guys is really something. He still dare to increase the price even after noticing that the goods that he is selling has defects in it. How about his dishonestly when the battery he gave you was 3rd party? Anyway, his account has been suspended but I'm very sure that he will sign up another new account.

Perhaps some form of pressure can make him pay up. Like asking some assertive friend of yours(or even father) to make sure he gives in. Print out his adv & threaten him that you will report to police coz he stated that "it is in very good condition" but it is not the case. Else, you have to bite the bullet yourself.

P/s: BTW the fungus were really bad.

Good luck...

wow.lidat still wanna sell.

the seller's account is now suspended. so i assume the mods or admin are doing something about it. Hope you get ur refund back.

dishonest seller indeed.

hope you get back a full refund and compensation too.

The member's (seller) account has been suspended for violation of guidelines and is not related to this sale. Coincindentally and again unrelated to this thread, this member also has a model shoot planned for August.

Need we say "Buyer Beware"?

actually he has 2 shoots slotted for august.. vr-zone

I feel for you, so here's my take:

Personal opinion here: I think given that these issues were raised within the 2 days personal warranty, I think you have got every right to reject and request for a full refund, given that the condition of the item was not as represented in the condition, and unfit for usage.

This issue would probably be between you and the seller, and the mods/admin will not have any intervention in this (that's what has been the policy all along).

I would suggest that you put the $120 cleaning on hold first, and push for a full refund. His problems with the camera shouldn't be yours. Some points:

1) Similarly to his argument - was there any indication that the item would not be refunded once sold (written anywhere)?

2) He claims that he sent the sensor for cleaning prior to selling it to you. Ask him to show proof of receipt.

I'm no lawyer in training, but I think you've got quite a strong case against him. Hope you'll be able to resolve this issue favourably. I stand corrected by the legal gurus. :)

Meanwhile, instead of sending it to Canon for servicing, you might want to contact fatigue (our resident CS repairman for advice). See if he's able to do this cheaper.
EDIT: NOT to say that you should go repair it now, but just gives you an idea on what are the alternatives available.

i looked at the thread,

he mentioned things like "Very good condition" and "Selling off because seldom utilise it. The camera is always well stored in Dry Cabinet. Its as good as new. . Suitable for new photographers who wanna venture into DSLR..."

if its really fungus, den i am sure the camera is NOT well looked after, and definitely not in a controlled environment....

and for fungus to grow till at such a SIZE, it means it has been neglected for some time.

correct me if i am wrong...

but from the looks of it.... First looking from the thread, Seller in the wrong, for even not posting accurate description. if u know its in a defect condition one way or another, just be honest about it, so the buyer can understand why its going for such a price.

but personally, $500, for a camera of such problems... sigh.. :dunno:

i cant blame the buyer for not inspecting since he said this is first time he is buying 2nd hand camera or even a camera ! and worst of all. a student whom i guess saved up pretty long for his first camera....

i truly admire your determination in owning a camera with your own money. i guess i can understand why you are so fustrated and all.

but i hope you can arrange something up.. really....

AND PLEASE START POSTING !!!! 0 POSTS !!!! TIME TO SHARE US YOUR LEARNING EXPERIENCE MAN !!! :bsmilie::bsmilie: i mean photography learning journey lah.....

IMHO, its a very very strong case..... black and white say good condition etc etc... now this.....

not to put it in a ugly manner.. but i think when selling something. ONE should be honest enough to state what's wrong with the cam, and some more say it has been sent for checkup or cleaning or whatever.... and worst still if i am not wrong, the price he paid for it was increased because camera was sent in for cleaning........

so if the seller want to sell the camera, and sent it for cleaning, the cost is incurred to the buyer indirectly ????

hmmmmm.........

Sigh - I think such issues boil down to one's personal integrity. But at the end of the day, this would definitely be a learning experience to the buyer.

Always check and double-check before dealing. Even when you are selling a item, always make sure that you show your buyer the condition of the item on the spot to prevent any further misunderstanding.

 looking through flickr.. a picture from march has the fungi sprawling over it already..

Wow - we've got our own resident CSI team in place. Well, this definitely shows the point that he was out to cheat.
psychobiologist :able to capture the EXIF data to find the camera's serial no?

Hi,

Sorry to hear about this case. Certainly the conditions are not as advertised and the seller being irresponsible by not refunding.

You have 2 choices:

1) Legal means to get your money back. But it could cost money and time in the process of doing so.
2) Sit out and hope the sensor cleaning makes the photo quality acceptable

Not to be rude or what. But this is a major lesson to everyone buying second hand goods. Please be careful and check your items properly. Don't buy it if its not good or even acceptable at all.

Hope your problems can be solved....

no exif present. probably hidden by flickr.

well there's actually a csi thread going on in hwz but i'm not linking it into this thread as i think hotlinking's against cs's policy :p

I am very sorry to hear that. I remember my friend onces bought a 300D from a CSer here before.

Claiming that He is going to US so selling his camera, After a few days, realise that the lens has fungus and took pictures similiars to yours. Luckly its only a "KIT LENS"

There are lots of dishonest people in the society these days, just be careful next time.
