im a malaysian....recently a shop offer a price abt RM3700 for CANON 40D with 18-55mm....and RM3300 for body...so is it worth to get it or hows the performance of canon 40D???or i just to get a body and choose to buy some other len???i knw D300 is better than 40D...but is too expensive for me..haha..i bought my D60 cost RM2588 with 3 yrs warranty...and how much can sell now huh???worth to sell to change to canon???or wait Nikon D90???
im really confusing now....and so much question...thx for the advice....
anyway someppl said canon picture is soft than nikon???

After trying to read your post, I oso confused liao!

are u sure u 1 2 change to another cam that fast? are u sure u will not use those prime lenses for a short few months b4 wanting to change body again?

pic quality-wise different brand & model, the image produced will vary quite abit due to technical differences. oh, that 18-55mm kit lense is no big deal if getting Canon 40D.

D300 or 40D?

Any lens you want to buys along? Canon lens and Nikon lens pricing are kind of different. Think you better do your homework first before deciding. =)

If you are L-series fan then go for Canon. :bsmilie:

Learn how to manual focus. Before autofocus was invented everyone had to manual focus and nowadays so many people entering the hobby think autofocus is a must. Its useful but not neccessary and I believe you can learn how to do it. Don't make AF a reason for you to change systems. The D60 is good, it too has anti dust (incase you havent realised) and from what I've read only olympus has the most efficient anti dust system. If I was in your shoes, I'd stick to nikon. Canon and Nikon are very comparable nowadays, and unless youre very picky about image quality and so on the D60 is a great camera. The Expeed image processor, I suppose, is of the same 'quality' as the DIGIC III, for both of them are the latest processors for both Canon and Nikon. You ought to think about this.

Lens wise, people do change their systems for lenses but you say "D60 cant use quite lot lens for me in future say abt 1 to 2 yrs...as im palnning to get those prime len...." In the future the camera technology would probably have evolved to be more advanced, better AF, higher ISO etc, so you could change your camera when newer ones come out.

Since you claim you are quite new. It is pointless to get better camera. Camera is just a gadget. You should learn the technique of shooting and the mode the camera have. D60 may have restriction due to lens fitting problem. Get a hang of it first. 1-2yr then change to a better camera. D700 just come out though, so the D300 price may fall abit.

However 1-2yr who know canon gonna a new camera again?

Lens is more important when it come to quality detail and sharpness. What kind of shot you want? Start slowly is what I advice. Play until you feel it is the ripe for a more powerful camera for shooting. Yup!!! My humble view =D

thx so much...i knw D60 is well..but ppl said canon more lens to choose...but anyway...i take ur advice to learn manual focus....i will buy a 2nd hand prime lens to play....wht is the nikon prime len u recommend????????in my mind...i think i like to shoot landscape..street...buiding(old old one)...but most of the time i shoot now is portrait of ppl...as i do not hav more time to play camera....mostly i paly every saturday and sunday when im in church.....this is the reason i shoot potrait more..haha....

There are actually plenty of lenses that can be used with D60.

Another thing: I think Nikon has manufactured more models of lenses than Canon.

Singular: Lens
Plural: Lenses
*No such word as: len

According to your requirements, I can be quite difficult to recommend you a prime lens. Most of the time, lenses for portraits have longer focal lengths than lenses used for landscape, buildings etc. If I would to pick 1, I'll say 35mm F2. This lens can only be focused manually with D60.

low budget, AF 50mm f1.8D, but MF.
medium budget, AF 50mm f1.4D, also MF.
most budget, sigma 30mm f1.4. can AF.
85mm is a bit tight for group shots.

and the .... is bit confusing to see carefully especially when is one whole paragraph of it.

Since you are familiar with Nikon, I would suggest that you stick with Nikon. Nikon D80 is older than Canon 40D, how to compare? If you want to upgrade, then get a D300 or D700 lor. If budget constraint go for the D200 then.

i think i will wait for D90...D200 is a good camera ...but lack of anti dust...live view....etc...hopefully the D90 can built with alloy body..haha...i like alloy body..but D300 is too expensive since im a newbie....is it alloy body important???thx

It's very individual actually. Live view to you may be important, but I have survived w/o it for so long, it's no big deal to me. Likewise about the alloy body.

yes you are! Who cares what others think if you can take stunning photos! There are still some ppl who grab my D200, find out you can't use it like a PnS (i.e-no live-view) all laugh at what a lousy camera i have! doesn't bother me and shouldn't bother you too

Btw, an alloy body isn't important in my opinion. Well, my D200 is an alloy body but i didn't buy it because of that. Some ppl think an alloy-body and survive bumps and drops better, the best camera protection there is isn't in the market: its you! don't even drop yr DSLR in the 1st place!

Besides even with a magnesium alloy body, don't expect the camera to be indestructable

What? D200 a lousy cam? (faint)

As for your concern that the D200 doesn't have sensor-cleaning, don't let that worry you. If you change your lenses properly and quickly without leaving the low-pass filter open for seconds, dust rarely settles on it. I used my D50 for over 1.5 years with no noticeable dust on the sensor. When some dust did settle, i blasted off with a blower and the sensor was squeaky clean :)
So don't be swayed by 'extra perks' like sensor cleaning, unless you really clumsy :bsmilie:
