Dear all,

Can anyone advice if Benro Tripod are good?
Where are they made as the names gives me a Taiwan made feeling.
THanks

Hi thanks all.
So what about Manfotto tripods.
Sorry but at times, i have this uncomfortable feeling when it comes to things made in China.
But hey, what is not made in China these days.

Sorry folks if i offended anyone.
I just air my worries and concerns.

Thanks for your kind understanding.

Hey thanks man.
Really appreciate it.

Which would you guys buy then?

this will depends on your camera body, lens & your shooting habit.
So, bring along your camera & your telephoto lens, test it at the shop.

Which would you guys buy then?

now i have a slik table pod, a manfrotto 055, a gitzo GT1541T and a manfrotto monopod

different setup for different needs
buy the best you can afford, my slik and manfrotto are close to 20 years old

Actually I am thinking of getting explorer series from gitzo (most of us cant afford Gitzo), I am considering benro called versatile series, worth to try benro? CF series on benro shd be ard 400+.

400+ can only get Gitzo G2220 with weight ard 2.2kg(that heavy) and their Gitzo CF series at least 700+ but 400g lighter...

300-400 saving on benro, worth considering?

Please correct me if any information is wrong.

that was what i thought too, then i went to try the benro tripods at the shops
i suggest you do the same

eventually if i am paying $400+++ i expect the tripod to last as long as my manfrotto
then i bit the bullet and bought the gitzo

now don't need to look at tripods anymore

if u were me, which 1 will u get?

G2220 Alu max height 163cm max load 6kg weight 2.2kg cost $322
G2330EX Alu max height 161cm max load 9kg weight 1.8kg cost $504
G2531EX CF max height 170cm max load 12kg weight 1.85kg cost $840

All price from B&H for reference purpose and converted to SGD by 1.4 conversion. Shipping not included.

among the 3 either the G2531EX or the G2330EX

depends on your height, is 161cm tall enough for you?
what/how do you shoot?

only difference in height and cost

WHOA!!!!!! Very expensive tripods.
Really wonder if i can afford one good one right now or do i need them.
I am using a 30D with 24 - 70 lense and at times 70 - 200.
Do you think i need to get a good tripod?
I think so right.
Any to recommend Ortega.
Really new to this and hope to get one that last like yours.

Can anyone advice if Benro Tripod are good?

I own one of their aluminum tripods and I find it to be great value. I bought it in Beijing, with help from a friend who lives there and is ruthless in her bargaining (I started feeling bad for the storekeeper after a while :bsmilie:)

The legs are very solid and sturdy. They're unfortunately not light. I was seriously tempted to get the CF legs but I didn't have enough cash with me that day.

Every time I recommend Benro tripod to someone, that person ends up buying Manfrotto legs. Let me know if you do end up with Manfrotto at the end of the day as well - I won't be offended in the least, just amused.

I'm not so sure about the quality of their ballheads though. Reviews of those is more mixed.

The story I heard about Benro (not sure about authenticity) is that Gitzo approached someone in China and wanted to outsource their production, providing production line plans, etc. That person / company promptly built two identical factories, with the other producing Benro tripods. Like I said, don't know if it is true, but you have to admit it is a great story.

Do you think i need to get a good tripod?

Get a good one, or don't get one. As someone pointed out to me in another thread, determining what is "good" or "good enough for you" is a whole different matter.

You know, that story certainly sounds true. See Blackberry and Redberry from China. Anyway, I'm currently between Manfrotto and Benro as well, willl go down to the Benro showroom and test out the tripods before deciding.

the higher the better... lol... I think 161 is enuff... I oli 173...

I think u can tell what i am keen in... Macro, that y i will choose explorer series.

Currently I am using Manfrotto 190xProb but I found that using Gitzo explorer series will be more ideal.

In my opinion I think Benro is pretty good. They can hold the camera well, I have similar camera setup like yours. It hold on the ballhead (KJ-1) and legs M257 at any angle without slippage. Currently I am also using it to hold my large format monorail without much problems too. Recommended.

when you do go to test the benro legs

close your eyes, extend the legs
then push them back in
and repeat

use your hands and ears to feel the difference
and know why i decided to buy a gitzo/manfrotto/slik

a few hundreds of dollars is not a little you know
