Hi guys...i've just got my 450D and the next item on my "to-buy" list is a tripod.

Was just wondering whether are there any tripod that are around $50-range that are still decent?

Did a search and i see budgets for tripods all starts from 100++. Are there even decent tripods selling at $50-range?

You may want to buy SLIK model COMPACT-XL or COMPACT at Cathay Photo.
Looks for a salesman call Steven. Ask him for discount, i believe it suits your budget.

most people want 3 things when looking for tripod.

cheap, light and sturdy,

but most of the time people will settle for twos..

light and sturdy tripod won't be cheap

cheap and sturdy tripod won't be light

cheap and light tripod won't be sturdy

so now you know what kind of tripod are you looking for.

went with the 3rd choice: cheap and light tripod won't be sturdy.
hehe, i very cheapo one...besides i bought it a few years back for my compact, so just make do till spoil.
always hold on to my cam's neck strap in case the tripod decides to give way someday...

Very True

I start off with
cheap and sturdy tripod won't be light

Until i feel that tripod is a must in most of my shoot then i upgrade to
light and sturdy tripod won't be cheap

Maybe you should invest in something more decent if you are serious in photography.
At a start, a $300 tripod + ballhead setup will last you a long way.

if you want to put a 1k camera on a $50 tripod, risking you camera can kiss the floor anytime, by all means.

Sounds like the new Canon 1000D name comes from here. Kiss F :p
I'm actually using cheap tripod for the time being, still able to support my camera.
Will get a Benro or manfrotto tripod soon.

If you get cheap/light tripod, you'll end up getting another tripod soon!

i'm using Benro...not too expensive.

hmm... i'm thinking of getting a Benro too :) Seems to be able to deliver 'ok' quality at a reasonable price (correct me if i'm wrong)

to TS:
Do not buy a cheap tripod! doesn't make sense to spend 1000+ on equipment then scringe on a cheap Tripod that can't stabilize your set-up properly, right? If you must know, I bought a $60+ tripod back when I was using my D50+kit. Now with a D200 and heavier lenses + flash..that poor little thing is gonna snap like a twig :bsmilie: Try to buy a tripod that can carry your gear for the next few years at least.

just my $0.02 :)

anyway, I also can't find a tripod which is cheap, light and sturdy.....

so these are what I have

I used to have this (free) cheapo tripod. When I put my DSLR on it, it went down 20cm. When I pressed the shutter button, it went down another 10 cm, and wobbled about. :bsmilie:

to all:

Thanks for all the advices. Guess I'll put on hold my purchase till i have enough for a decent tripod.

the main purpose of a tripod is to hold your camera still
so, if the tripod cannot hold your camera absolutely still for long exposures
then that tripod dose not serve it's primary purpose and is just a waste of money and effort carrying it around.

in the end i gave in and get option 1, light and sturdy tripod won't be cheap
i also have a manfrotto 055 and a 029 head, which sits in my storeroom most of the time
very sturdy but also very heavy, only to be used when needed

Hi, I am same as u, having 45oD and now looking for tripod.
After much research, my overall weight for lens and camera will be around 1.6kg. most likely I will get either Manfrotto or Benro and a ball head.
Benro carbon fibre(058) and 4 kg support ball head, CP is offering at S$300 flat.
