i'm taking photographs for a concert in my school.
so any tips for me?
i'm using a d-60 for tmw event

choose any two:

1. crank up your ISO to 800 or 1600 (noise at 800 still ok, but may be hard to get decent shutter speed, 1600 should be rather noisy, 3200 unsuable IMHO...)

2. get a fast lens, anything with F2.8. if can get prime lens F2 or below lagi best!

3. use flash. but not sure if u can do so w/o disrupting. i dun mean on-camera flash, but at least SB600 and above.

if u have only #1, u can still try, but expect very low % of usable shots unless the stage is very well-lit.. hope these tips help =)

how far is the stage to where you will be positioned?
ISO800 is almost a must.
If the stage is far and only moderately lit, then u will need a fast lens of 70-200mm f2.8 constant throughout.
Go and rent it if you intend to use it once in a lifetime for concert thingy.

close eh?

covered a concert recently where i moved about near the front of the stage area.

If you're doing the same, a 50mm prime will do a pretty good job :)

as for ISO, like boyboy and sin77 commented, above 800 is a MUST! :bsmilie:

However, i disagree with boyboy. DO NOT Flash:nono: Its very inconsiderate to the audience. Besides, i don't think you're allowed to anywais :sweatsm:

all the best to ya then ;)

If is own school then flash can be neg. depending on events happening in the concert.

perhaps TS/zhaf93 can state what will be happening for the concert so that the helpful people here can provide useful information to help you.

Yikes, I think I'm too late to join in the discussion haha. I USE D60 with the kit lens TOO!
I took pictures for a solo voice recital at Lee Foundation Theatre last month. Actually I used ISO 400, and a shutterspeed of 1/15 at 55mm. Hmmm, surprisingly it's not blurred, but just that the edges are not sharp so needed photoshoppin. I considered using ISO 800, but I felt the grains were too visible because of the dark areas on the stage, and it allowed a speed of 1/20? not much diff =(

I used spot metering, and got the exposure from the singer's face instead of Matrix metering because the camera would underestimate the brightness due to the contrastin lighting. haha, care to share with me the settings you used and stuffs? Would like to learn more!
