Recommended Lens

Hi ppl, i will be purchasing a 40D... but was wondering if i'm not going to take the kit lens, which lens can i go for it? Which lens can offer me for portrait taking as well as landscape? I know there are different lens for different purposes. But is there a lens which can have both the requirements that i want and is not that ex? ( Maybe similar to the kit lens but is better and not tat ex.) And what lens die die is worth getting my hands on it?

My budget is ard $2000 for the whole set.

If you do not want the kit lens, you could go for the kit lens II, which is the 17-85.

die die worth getting with the 40D would be the tamron 17-50 2.8.

that would give you a standard zoom for a 1.6x cam.

but if you can stretch that dollar a bit, i would suggest a 50mm 1.8 for portraits too.

the tamron would come in useful in landscapes. its not UWA, but it works pretty well. nonetheless, if you're new to photography, the 18-55 IS would let you learn from it pretty well.

Please go for the kit I lens - the 18-55mm IS. It performs better optically than the more expensive 17-85mm IS. It offers the best bang for buck when you are starting with photography.

Guess for my budget i should go for the 18-55mm IS. Yup, will be getting a 50mm F1.8 for portrait taking...

But there's a recent post on problems with the prime lens. Do you guys encounter it? Thou the post is for a nikon lens.

Should i buy it the prime lens on the spot when i get the cam or should i get it from oracle? Cause i know that he is seller lens at a cheaper price.

Was also thinking if i should go for flash guns or lens 1st also...:sweat:

Standard zoom is the usual range.. 18ish to 50plus-ish

UWA is ultra wide angle, 10ish to 20ish.

Good bargain = 55-250mm IS, 360 bucks.

just stick to 18-55 kit and get a cheap f1.8 prime . Tamron retails at 500+onwards if u want that.

Yes. Almost same range. Just that one got IS whereas the other has constant f2.8 aperture.
The 55-250mm IS is a Canon lens. It will be a good tele lens to compliment the 18-55mm IS.

How can you be interested in buying things with no clue what to use it for? Better get rid of the 'bbb virus' and focus on taking pictures.
Buy equipment only when you see that you need it in order to achieve something that you have in mind. Never buy equipment with the idea "let's see what it is good for".
