Hi.... saw in Amazon.Com, a very good deal on a certain Canon lens on their website. But knowing from pass experience, Amazon won't mail the lens to S'pore..... some issue having to do with warranty problem (greyset). :(

S'pore Post have a service called - Vpost US/Japan - which provide you with a 'local' - US/Japan - address for which the seller could send the item to. Which is then send back to ur S'pore address.....

Would like some help here.....

1) Anyone here uses Vpost before ??
2) Good/Bad experience ??
3) Anyone ever getting a lens that has crack, damaged or heard of such stories ??

Thxs for any info....

Me

Most of the time they are slow. if u got something u need urgently, do not use vpost.
Sometimes they take long time to match the recieved goods against invoice, so u gotta call them for a friendly reminder.

3) Anyone ever getting a lens that has crack, damaged or heard of such stories ??
Nope. I have shipped a microscopic objective and a good old 35-70mm before.
I am shipping my 24 PC soon. :bsmilie:
As long as you get the appropriate insurance for fragile items.

Hope this helps.
If you have a UOB credit card u get a small discount from shipping fees

Can't answer your main questions, since I live in the U.S., but I've bought two lenses and a camera body from Amazon in the past without problems.

If you buy from Amazon (instead of a 3rd party - which depends on the party) you should receive a lens with both US and International warranty. Bodies are US warranty only.

BTW can you tell me which lens? Always looking out for a good deal :bsmilie:

i would be more interested to know if GST is payable

From the merchant invoice you sent, they will know if GST is payable ( 7 % for > 400 SGD )

But if it is a used item that you got from overseas forum then you gotta fill up a proforma form for the value you paid for .

If the total amount exceeds $400 SGD, you have to pay GST.

OMG..... Forgotten the part about paying Bl**dy GST !! Sh*t...... after some 'Math', my saving would be only around $100 instead of the $200++ I 1st thought !! :(

Hahaha..... no problem, good deal must be shared - Canon 70-200mm USM L IS - selling for $1025 USD (about $1375 SGD)....

Btw..... does the lens from Amazon.Com comes with the full standard package ?? Lens Hood, lens pouch.... etc ?? Or just the lens alone ?? Amazon.Com wasn't saying much, just listed package as 'Canon 70-200mm'....... :what:

Damn, you almost gave me a heart attack! But after my blood pressure came down, I realized you must have been talking about the f/4 not f/2.8 :bsmilie:

If it is sold by Amazon (although Adorama and J&R are both reputable sellers) it will come with everything, inside a Canon box, with warranty and instruction book. In fact, the last line in product description says that it comes with lens hood and pouch. Both my purchases came with everything it should, the L came with hood, lens case and tripod ring.

This price is good till July 19th - but Canon typically offers such deals twice a year - the next one is likely around October if history is any indication.

It is still savings as long as you think it is worth it ( considering warranty issues and stuffs )

Just pmed ya ;)

You gotta make sure the delivery is within the stated date though. Else little delays and if ur brother checked out ..

( I tried it on Wimberley and KEH though, not amazon ) Simply give them the details of the room to be delivered. The last time they left it at the reception and they informed my friend of the package.

Hahaha..... doing all these just to save on GST when coming home..... :bsmilie:

You might want to send the order in early so it will arrive ahead of your arrival. I bought non-camera stuff online 2 years ago with my one week stay in US. I timed it so it will arrive one day ahead of me and asked the hotel to hold the packages for me until I arrive since I do not have a room no. to tell the shipper. Everything arrived as planned and when I checked in, all the packages were waiting for me. I thought if the package got delayed, at least I have 5-6 more days I can sort things out with the seller.

Should not be a problem. I did it before. Just order early, sometimes the item will be on backorder and Amazon might take a bit longer to deliver. If your brother has a confirm reservation with the hotel, the hotel will hold onto the package for him if the delivery arrives before he does.

Be sure to inform the hotel too o.o So there is record of it.. Otherwise the hotel staff take your lens to go play. :D

Thxs all for all these information

I thought of 'Ordering' early too..... but my Bro can't give me his Room Number nor inform the Hotel early (since his Company was the one doing the booking). Talk to him about it..... he will sms me the Room Number once he check-in and at the same time, inform the Hotel about the item...... Now, I only scare that Amazon.Com DOESN'T send to Hotel..... :(

You may also want to check and / or clear it with your credit card issuer. In the U.S., if I'm trying to ship to somewhere other than my billing address, I call up the card issuer to clear it with them first. Otherwise, for large purchases, they may call me up to check, or they may reject the transaction outright.

Thxs Bro..... I'm using CitiBank.... US Bank (i think), hopeful will not be a issue. Worst to worst..... buy local greyset lor..... :embrass:

Besides the GST, u also need to know that credit card company will "mark-up" the exchange rate to their advantage, this is part of their profit. For example, I bought some books from Amazon using S$ VISA card, the exchange rate for that day was about US$1=S$1.37+ but the bank charged me at exchange rate of US$1=S$1.40+, so in effect they earned about 2%.
