Dear friends,

Am helping a friend to take some group photos for his seminar at a hotel.
Normally, when i do group photo, some Delegate images become pretty blur and not clear if you blow up the image.
Can someone advice how best we can take such group photo.

Thanks

wwhat settings were you using? use f8 and above with flash, tripod would be good if you have the time.

Hi Koel, am using a Canon 30D, 24-70L and a 430Ex.
Just worried that the flash might not be strong enough.
Thanks for your advice.

Ups for the day

Canon 30D, 24-70L and a 430Ex

If ceiling is high,
24mm to 28mm, use M mode, 1/60sec, f5.6 to f8, ISO 800, flash head direct

If ceiling is low,
24mm to 28mm, use M mode, 1/60sec, f5.6 to f8, ISO 800, flash head tilted upward or 60 degree with reflector

If you use tripod and release cable, the shutter speed can set slower to 1/15 to 1/30sec.

you could bump up your ISO instead of prolonging your shutter speed if you're taking the shots handheld... though it will appear noisier, its better than having blur images especially in indoor conditions... especially if you dont have the luxury of setting up a tripod at every point of a active seminar =]

you can fellow megaweb advice.

btw, how big is your group?

Hi all,

Thank you so much.
The group is around 30 people.

Thanks and hope myshots will turn out well.

For large group like this is better to use Av mode F/8 or smaller F-stop.
Use direct flash with your wide angle filter on to have a softer fill in flash.
A tripod will be good as you will not had hand shake photo.
Hope this Help...;)

A word of caution. A tripod allows you to use a low shutter if you are shooting static subjects. For human shots, you may experience some motion blurring from your subjects thou you have eliminated handshake from yourself.

that's correct, but for formal group photos, most people will aware and keep still during the shots, can give reminders to them like "Yi Er San!! SIAO! Bu Yao Dong!!" (1! 2! 3! smile and hold still there) :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:
