Hey guys,

Just got a Digieye lens pen frm ms color. Used e brush to get rid of some dust on my view finder...On closer inspection, many scratches which I have not noticed b4 appeared on e view finder glass exterior. Then, I realised that the brush is not entirely smooth...among the black "hairs", there is one , brown n hard twig like thingy hidden, and glued to the base like the other strands. I suspect that it's the culprit. But, I wasn't really using much strength.

So guys, what should I do now?

1) Go to ms color replace e pen?

2) Go to NSC, act ignorant, and claim its a manufacturer fault?

I know the scratched viewfinder isn't going to affect the pictures, but still, its an eyesore.

Or have I done something wrong, and am not supposed to use e brush on e viewfinder?

Should have used a blower...

Sad to say but yes. you're not suppose to use brush

By the way, which camera?

Nikon D60. Now, I'm feeling guilty. Tried a blower, but e dust was kinda persistent. Never expected it to be that prone to scratching. Geez, any idea How much is it to change that glass at NSC?:(

less than $100. i sent my d50 last time was around $60+

Hope e extended warranty helps. Act ignorant I guess...haaa. What's that piece called anyway...viewfinder exterior?

lol, just got my D60 last week. Got a free lenspen, i think i better don't use it. The blower, can use mouth to blow it ?

Oh gosh no please don't. Use a proper blower.

While it's probably too late to say this, some things really just require some common sense. No offence to anyone intended here, but a lenspen is intended for a lens, and I'm sure when you blow out of your mouth, the air is not purely air. Common sense will tell you that saliva and whatever you might have eaten for dinner may also come out. Can you imagine blowing all that into your camera body with your mouth?

Is the brush on the lens pen supposed to be for the lens as well, or just the exterior of e camera body?

I think you can bring the camera and pen to ms color and ask them to replace the pen and pay for your camera repair. Well... this is a cheap VF glass, what if you used it to dust your 70-200VR and scratches it?

Lens.

Wait, TS, are you referring to the glass that you look through at the rear of the camera, or the focusing screen that you see inside the camera?

Yup, The glass at the rear of the camera...Exterior part of the Viewfinder la....Helll not the focusing screen, only use blower fr that!

I don't use e brush on lenses. Only the exterior of the camera and the outer glass of the viewfinder which I assumed should be more hardy...

I'm just wondering whose fault is it...mine? Digieye or the shop that sold it?

got a quote over the phone few months ago from nsc, $45 w/o gst for replacement of my vf screen in the d40.

i use blower only no brushes for me cos i also damage a bit of the vf screen using a toothpick to remove 1 spot of dirt... learn my lesson already.

Oh, so it's called a vf screen. Thanks for the info! $45? hmm, hope I can get them to do it free, or I'll just put up with the scratches. When you put your eye behind e viewfinder, it ain't that obvious. However, under e sun, n looking down at e viewfinder, u see a scratchy mess...which makes yur heart damn pain...

$45 w/o gst is just the cost of the vf screen only, dont think it includes the workmanship cost yet.
you can try to bluff your way out but i think by 1 look, the tech staff straight away can tell you damage your vf screen on your own record.
or you can try to pm fatigue and ask him does he have a piece of vf screen for sale, he might be able to help you fix in the new screen as well and should be slightly cheaper.
i can live with the slightly damaged screen but the dirt there is starting to get to me sometimes even though it does not affect the pics.
dirt in the vf, better dont try to clean it cos only nsc can clean it by opening up the cam to do internal cleaning.
gd luck then.

Nsc's price for workmanship seems jacked up. I was quoted $100 for cleaning the dirt in the viewfinder. Thing now is, I was wondering if I can push the blame to the shop that sold me e lens pen. Thing is, am I supposed to use the lens pen fr e viewfinder in the first place, or is it a big Nono...

actually i was quoted $80 w/o gst for internal cleaning at nsc.
with gst comes up to around $85.60, no idea where 10 plus tally from?
i dont think anyone uses a lens pen to clean the vf screen in the 1st place.

Keep blaming yourself and let all the companies get away with lousy quality control. :bsmilie: The lens pen is mean for lens - now it scratches you VF, won't it scratch your lens? I don't find cleaning VF with lens pen unreasonable at all.

Oh no...

Last weekend, I also use my Hakuba Lens pen with brush to clean my Lens, filter and external vf too..

later go back and check....
