Are Teachers or Lecturers forced to write only nice things?

Was discussing something recently, and a professional educator mentioned nowadays, teachers are strictly forbidden to write anything negative about a student, regardless of how true it is.

Instead, they have to phrase things in a 'nice-nice' sounding, generic manner.

Is it true?

think so. too many restrictions placed on teachers nowadays. unless they have great patience, they seldom last long now. most of my friends quit after their contract ended.

well, they normally 'think' about the child future... so they only write the standard reply in the report books.

(btw, the software have alot of generic standard format, press 1 for nice, press 2 for nicer, press 3 for nicest.. lol... there is nothing bad)

but they can also dun give appraisal or wat you call that when you live school... but i think its nothing important, just some value added stuff... i never get that, so u probably know where i stand...

oh and i was wondering most of the time in primary school when my music teacher will write, something special for me, but i never become a singapore idol... what a waste... :bsmilie:

when i was in primary sch, used to get plently of negative stuff in my report book.
but during sec sch, never see stuff like that anymore.

Hmm ... but doesn't that provide an inaccurate reference on what a student need to uphold and build (strengths), or work on (bad or weak points)?

they ph3ar more on incurring parents' wrath or disdain (coz by word of mouth discontent can spread fast, and affect the school's name, and probably affect the student intake amount, and further implicate MOE to probe why is it so...the list goes on...etc etc)

with schools running like business nowadays, performance pegged...easy to hear the good things only.

long term effects of negative publicity seem to scare the schools more than the 4 years the student gonna spend in sec sch. haaa :bsmilie:

The "thing skin" mentality, the political correct approach, the thou shall not criticize the model thinking, the we must not hurt the photographer's feeling ....

I can understand if the authorities deem it 'destructive' to a child's self-esteem if they write something like "Ah Beng is lazy, stupid and offensive and is nothing more than a parasite and will cost his parents and society too much.", but to make it a guideline that nothing negative at all can be written, no matter how true it is, or how diplomatically it it presented ... how would that contribute to a child's emotional, psychological and intellectual growth in a balanced manner?

As for stuffing mouth with chalk ... rapping knuckles with steel ruler, throwing books, bags and table and chair out of the window, hanging student from ceiling fan OOPS! Actually we did that ourselves to our fellow classmates ... and ourselves! Damn fun! HUR! HUR! HUR! ... actually I'm glad THOSE days are over.

yah kena the flying books and exercize books, especially when they are a plastic layer covering, everything goes flying and tearing. Then your parents will chid you for not taking care of the books.

I kena flying wooden dusters before...damn pain. hahahaha

but its memories... nostalgic....cant imagine students today what they can boast of,

"today my teacher gave me the stern stare...that's all"
