Hi Guys,

I have always been a fan of Pentax lenses, particularly the Limited

One question!

Is it possible for the Manual lens to be able to meter in Aperture Priority mode on a K20D? Lets say CZ 85 1.4 Pentax Mount?

My D200 is able to meter properly with all the Manual AI / AI-S lenses.

Thanks for the help guys

Regards,
Faisal.

If the lens has an A setting (auto aperture), you should be able to use it in Aperture Priority (Av) mode on all Pentax dSLR camera. Even an old M42 lens can be used in Av mode when a proper adapter is used. Manual lenses w/o A setting can also be used in Av mode, but the lens can only take photos wide open even you turn the aperture ring to smaller settings.

The new CZ lenses (including the 85/1.4) have A settings, just like Pentax A lenses. You can use them in Av mode w/o any problem at all :)

Good luck.

Feng Wei, when you say a proper adapter, are you referring to the pentax original M42 adapter for PK mount?

Of course the original Pentax M42 to PK adapter is the best. But it's hard to find, and its price got quite high nowadays. You can also use third party ones.

Some third party ones are not well built, and some have a fling which might not allow you to focus at infinity. Just make sure you don't buy those, then you'd be fine :)

Better don't tell me that you've got LBA for some M42 lenses :D

Thats comforting to hear

But I have no doubt! since I use mostly Sigma / Tamron / Tokina glass almost all the time! I will not have any issues with lens choice :)

As you say, just need to get use to the new system

Is there any one from Pentax group to go with me shoping :bsmilie:

Any experienced in Pentax who can test all the functions of the K20D and see there is nothing wrong with the Kit

Much appreciated hehe...

actually if u already a season D200 user, the K20D is not too difficult, last time i read the user manual the common settings b4 hand so that i can take a few shots in difference modes...

only thing abit different from D200 is the ISO,WB,Flash and drive mode, D200 got didicated buttons for them, K20D is access using the fn button. Just read them up not too difficult...

EV+/-, AF button is same... exposure mode Tv,Av,P,bulb,Xsycn(red) andM mode im sure no need to explain. TAv and Sv is unique. TAv is both Tv and Av combine, change Tv camera choose Av for u, change Av camera choose Tv for u. Sv is u choose ISO and can choose Av if im not wrong, camera choose Tv for u...

SR button ON/OFF no need to explain i guess...

Green button is the magic button, it sets the correct exposure for u in TAv/M mode.
Means in M mode, which u sets everything urself, pressing the Green button automatically sets the correct exposure for u depending if u fixed Tv or Av in the menu. Likewise for TAv mode.
And in some camera settings it resets them for u when press. for example pressing EV and green button together will reset to 0+/-

play(rear dial zoom in/out), infor, delete and menu button is similar to D200.

APC,APS manual focus setting same as D200

metering switch(spot, center, mater) is below the mode dial (same as the way u choose the drive mode in D200)

AF point switching is at the wheel.

SD card compartment open lever is next to the SR switch.

hope this helps...

WOW! Hehe... Thanks bro. You summarized every thing nicely

Where is the best place to get a K20D! I checked with Alan Photo and they were giving the K20D kit for $2k, is that the right price for the kit?

I have seen, at ebay there are many good sellers selling brand new bodies for $1500 to $1600 with 1 year international warranty.

Just want to check before I take that plastic card out of my wallet hehe :bsmilie:

just missed out on the live view, its the bulb mode in D200... i hardly ever used it but its good to check if its working... AF button to AF, shutter release to shoot... this can also be configure as optical preview (DOF preview i think) or digital preview (in the display) in the custom menu...

the best price here i dunno, 1.8K(w/GST) of less for body alone with local warranty, 2K with kit lens(if new kit lens version II) might not be the best price...can try calling TK photo and MS color, i think their prices are pretty good... another place to check is OP of course, much cheaper but shop warranty...Ya US selling cheap, 1500 - 1600... but shipping plus if involved GST then maybe about the same... Good luck...

SUPER! Thanks bro :)

Not forgetting Hyper Program Mode, which is avaliable (only) in Pentax (?), where you put to Program mode but you can change to Av Priority or Tv Priority by turning the front/rear dial. Nice...

faisalee and flowerpot,

what made you want to switch from Nikon to Pentax?
I was a K10D owner, but then switched to Nikon.
Now, I sold most of my gear, down to just one lens and flash (not even a cam body).
Here I am thinking about Pentax again.
The last time I switched was really the availability of lenses and other accessories on the forum. (I can buy and sell quite easily)
But, Pentax has some really nice and reasonably priced lenses.

Of course the original Pentax M42 to PK adapter is the best. But it's hard to find, and its price got quite high nowadays. You can also use third party ones.

Hahaha... I would really love to try the 135mm. But only this one... Small and quite light. It's really just nice for the bag for an occasional reach.

So by using the original M42 PK adapter, would allow you to use AV mode? If really the case, can start hunting for 1 cheap and not too bad lens liao!!

Bro! Its just that I have used Nikon for the past 5 years started with Film F75 then Digital D50 and over the last year D200! Great system loved every thing about it and still do  For me its the price and features of the K20D and Ohhh! those Limited lens

Any ways, still I am not going to switch, just that I will keep my Nikon system and want to join the Pentax as well! Will be using more of the pentax and less of the nikon...

And YES... I found that NEW 50mm f1.2 lens is still available for Pentax !!!

Yes, you can use Av mode as you are using an A lens, the metering will be correct, although there won't be any aperture info shown on the top LCD screen or in the EXIF :)
