You are still missing the point, that compliments are to be directed at the photographer's representation of his/her art, not your subjective views on the "attractiveness" of the model. If you want to ogle and judge models perhaps you should go purchase some girly magazines from the auntie down the street, because this certainly isn't the place for it.

Alright if that's the case then why are we all engaging MUA,hairstylist to enhance the make up since we are only suppose to comment on the artisit point of view and not the subject itself?
You mate, are the one missing the entire point.

It's just my personal preference that i like my portrait models to be more subtle when managing their smiles .... hence, usually no big smiles for my shoots

I'm not sure why... but somehow I feel that the Xiaoting in this series don't look as bubbly as I saw her months ago. Perhaps it's the request of the photographer... or that she's probably burdened down by her studies.

But I would seriously prefer this photo if the baby hair of her fringe on her forehead isn't there. It's a little distracting. :)

But well, Xiaoting definitely isn't auntie looking....! This is something which I believe most who had seen her would agree upon.

yo ... nothing to be jealous la ...
it's just like an uncle bringing out his fav niece for a Sunday morning breakfast cum walk in the park .....:bsmilie::sweat:

Everyone who knows her will surely know she is a super-happy, easy going, super bubbly, super-sweetie, super talkative sweetheart  .... it's me that kept insisting that she stopped smiling and giving me a serious look (it's a tough job!) :bsmilie: ....
don't think she will ever be burdened down by her studies .... she is too smart

Because all of this is subjective art. It is of no reflection on the model what-so-ever. That's why.

Wow... what a lovely model you have here. Hmmmm... Just wondering when can I meet and take some photos of her... TFCD can :) just new in Photography

The user yamapi have been deregistered.

Though he has been deregistered before (under dotaboy and aqillies) for personal comments against other members and also models. We allowed him to continue in this forum under his new nick "yamapi" and hoping he stop his mischief. It seems that he has not changed and persist in such act. All in all he has been given 3 chances.

He is therefore banned from CS. If anyone come across "him" registering a new nick please keep us informed and we will deegistered it.

Thanks for keeping the peace! :)

Back to the topic though; I really love the pictures Canonised! I really think you have captured not just the outer, but also inner beuty of your model. The pictures do away with changing effects and fancy setups and really deliver an almost comforting feeling to viewer. Really lovely work! :)

any more photo of XMM. Really love to see the composition that Cannonised have achieved

Yes, yes, and yes. a XMM or any model/talent/candid subjects are the focal of a portrait. Without them, there will not be any portraits. So, why aren't them fair game in comments, criticism, praises and what not.

The original comments regarding "auntie" in the thread started a firestorm. If the image is of a young male, and the comments was "uncle", I doubt there will be much counter comments and definitely not the storm we had witnessed.

Btw, I won't comment on the beggar looking malnourished, because that is what I expected. If the ballerina looks fat, I will say the ballerina looks fat. How else to comment?

Back to the "auntie" comment. I don't agree with it, in terms of the description, but I don't see how it was derogatory to the model? Perhaps ... I better not ....

firstly - they are fair game - but when the model posts it up, but commenting on the things that the photographer cannot control, i.e. looks (at least to a certain extent, bar plastic surgery, which i think you agree is drastic) is at best akin to me posting up a picture that you had taken and letting people comment on it. this is a photographic forums, if you want comments on your model's looks and not photography, post up the pictures on hwz.

obviously when it is a male there will be less countercomments. i think it is only fair to say that age is not such a sensitive issue with males. as to whether this should be the case, that is not the point here. if it is indeed the photographer's fault that the model look auntie, i.e. he didn't correct inappropriate styling, he shot her from a very unflattering angle, then say it is the photographer's fault. this is a photographer asking for critique here, he did not come here to show off how pretty his model is. i'm sure you of all people would agree that whether a model is auntie or not in reality, while extremely subjective, has nothing to do with photography.

well, if the ballerina is clearly not fat, but the photographer makes her look fat, then you are more than free to comment on it. if the ballerina is fat, and the photographer presents reality, then say "fat", got what use? that's a waste of your calories and time in typing out something that we all already know. why not just add in that "this is a picture of a ballerina and it is a fat ballerina at that."?

Actually, I don't know who is XMM when I 1st open up this thread. I only remember this very attractive picture,

_L0K1625-2.jpg

and in my true opinion - she is beautiful. Then, after reading all the posts in this thread, and finally she mentioned to check out her pictures in her blog, WOW!!! It's actually her!!! (BTW, if I have mistaken to be the same girl, please let me know. Old man, eyes not so good.)

But seriously, has anyone thought of what's happening here? Especially the 1st few shots posted? Despite Yamapi being de-registered, to be very frank, I have the same feeling when looking at those pictures, before I later found out who she is at page 3. So, Why? Hence, just for this case alone, I serious dun find Yamapi being bad on his comments if he is expressing his true thoughts on what's he feels but in a very direct way.

There was also mentioned that TS had asked XMM to post that way. And the result? Was this what TS wanted to express? Perhaps that's what photography is trying to achieve, isn't it? As a form of Art, we always want our audience to share and feel what we want to tell in our work, else we would have kept it under our bed. But if otherwise, then perhaps as a creator, we could just relook at what went wrong if we care with a pinch of salt, or just ignore and find a better understanding audience, than to correct the audience's opinion, isn't it?

Just my thoughts after these years.

Came into this thread late but I sure don't miss a thing. Guess anyone can speak their mind, it depends very much one has a constructive or disruptive mind.

Canonised, I'm a newbie and really can't provide any comments on your photos...but you are one photographer whom has shown high respect for your subject. ........ that's admirable.

I am really really surprised that yamapi got deregistered for something like that.
Does this mean we should never make any negative comments on any models or photos.
