Gaffa Taping CAmera ?

Hello guys,
I've been travelling around in late, and I was wondering, does anyone have any tips on how to protect my camera body from scratches or fingerprint marks/sweat marks etc.

I have heard of gaffa taping the camera, however, everytime I ask the sales people selling gaffa tape (i am looking at this particular brand called ClingTape) http://www.cling.com.au
leaves adhesive residule which is hard to remove and may even destroy the camera's body coating.

Please advice/ give any tips and solutions?

Maybe I looked for the wrong brand of tape ?Where can I get proper gaffa tape in singapore which perhaps other people have been using?

Btw, it's called gaffer tape. It's supposed to be low tack and leaves little or no residue.

Try looking for Apollo brand tapes. I'm using it and it's good. :thumbsup:

I'm kindda confused on the usage of gaffer tape. May I know what is it used for other than the above mention? Will there be any long term effects other than scratches if I don't use it?

You'll find that gaffer tape was originally designed for loftier purposes than to plaster on a camera to protect it, even though it does that job quite well.

I use garden variety cheapo $1.50 duct tape with no problems whatsoever, and no, I don''t have problems with residue. I just replace said duct tape regularly. BTW, even gaffer tape needs to be replaced regularly or it WILL leave a sticky, hardened residue, as it was never designed to be used for long periods.

same. i use cheapo duct tapes. its only to protect so i dont see a reason to fork out so much money for things that serve the same purpose.

Being able to say you have $30 of Gaffer tape on your body as compared to 80 cents of duct tape is a whole lot sexier! :bsmilie:

It actually depends on if you are using the tape for protection from scratches, or protection from dropping or knocking..

Unless you added silicon padding during the gaffering process... :bsmilie:

I make mine a few layers thick, so it may help a little in terms of shock absorbtion...

will it affect the inside electronics component since it might trap some heat inside?

that is ofconcern too. mainly i wanna protect from scratching and sirt marks.

im concerneed that the gaffer will leave a stain or the glue will adhere to strongly to the base paint/leather/cover of the camera and leave a hard to remove stain or destroy the original covering of the cameras.
