Shop warranty!

Hi guys,

Just want to ask what does 'Shop Warranty' means with regards to Canon lens? I thought all Canon lens has international warranty, while the bodies of camera has local warranty.

I will assume for these 'Shop warranty' lenses, either they are fake canon lens, or they are selling second hand stuff as new stuff?

Some shops also setting canon camera bodies without warranties. Is that possible? Albeit lower prices, but... hmm seems weird to me.

Shop warranty means only the shop give you warranty not canon singapore. Local warranty is from canon singapore. The lens that the shop are selling are new just that they dont have canon warranty only. ;) Unless you pay abit more to get the canon warranty.
 

If I'm not mistaken, they're the imports from hk, etc. If you go to Canon Service center there's a service charge to it. Therefore if send back to the shop, they'll help u settle it... well, tat's wht a shop told me.
 

Just curious, aren't all canon lenses suppose to have international warranty?

The ones with shop warranty or no warranty are probably grey market stuff and hence are available at cheaper prizes. There is so much of technology involved in todays cameras and lenses that nobody would be able to fake one, thought there is a chance that some shops might pass off a used lens in good condition as a new one.

Grey market for canon bodies mean that no local warranty, just because it is bought in another country right! This is understandable, because say if bought in HK, then no local warranty in SG. And as bodies do not have international warranty, hence no warranty.

But what about canon lenses? Are there such things as Canon grey lenses?

Well, the reason I am asking is not to debate whether canon warranty is as good as shop warranty. Well it should cover similar things. But just curious to know if these lens that come under shop warranty are second hand, coz all canon lens ( bought in HK etc) should have international warranty, hence I do not get the concept of shop warranty when it comes to canon lens? Maybe I am slow in understanding your reply! hehe

I hope there is another plausible explanation about the concept of shop warranty of canon lens?

when one describes "shop warranty", it normally means that the shop you bought the lens from will honour the warranty for that lens.

These lenses belon to the "grey market" that is parallel imports from outside of the local agent.

The only reason i can think of is because they are parallel imports. This apply not only for lense but any other stuff you can think of. Parallel imports are usually much cheaper than buying from the local agents. If the makers were to honour the warranty for parallel imports, i guess no one would even consider buying from the local agents.
 

Just to understand better.

Those MO for Canon lenses by fellow forumers comes with international warranty, which usually are from HK. Are these lenses consider as grey set? Is the International warranty valid locally in this case?

A grey set, shop will bring in from other country, so they have to send back to CSC in that country.

For MO done by forumers, when they bring in, they will get reciept from the contact in thet country. You will reg your warranty with the CSC in that country. But your warranty is valid in SG as well.

Shop warranty is because you cant reg warranty with your shop's source country..

Or something along those lines

Anyone with experience in dealing such shop warranties? Does the shop warranty fulfil its end? FYI: Shop in question = TCW.. Thanks in advance for your advice!

You cannot "upgrade" shop to normal warranty. You have to get a product which comes with international warranty THAT YOU CAN CLAIM.

The reason you get shop warranty is that for some reason, it is not claimable..

If you are Canon Singapore, you also will not want to risk covering a lens that you are not sure came from where right?

Hehe.. Thanks for the info. Just an example.. More of the "official" "on-paper" way to do it. I'm sure CSC will be accommodating as long as the rules are followed.

Maybe I did not phrase it too well, but i was also hoping if someone who have ever had to have their "Shop Warranty" Equipment "serviced" by the shops, maybe can share his/her experience? Thanks! =]
