Hi, I am newbie here. May I know why the dry cabi needs ventilation? I put it a a corner of my office room, around 2m square. It that ok?
The dry cab transports the humidity from the inside to the outside of the cabinet. The electrically powered unit doing this sits at the back side of the cabinet. To avoid that the humidity get stuck there you should leave some space at the back and ensure free airflow above the cabinet. Also, the unit gets a bit warm (no worries, you can still touch it without getting burned).
I am placing it in my room. Day- No air-con, Night- On air-con. So far, the RH is very stable.
Me too. Im wondering it is bad for the camera and the lens inside it since the
temperature keeps changing. Will find vapour on the lens when taken out and
can only wipe outside it - how about inside condition ? :think:
I have just shifted my dry carbinet to non-aircon room just to be safe.

Thanks a lot. I have moved the dry carbinet out a little, leaving 5cm at the back. I think should be ok now. Try with this 30L first. If all goes good, get a bigger one for my stamps and coins.

since we are on this subject... care to share the right settings for the dry cabinet. I had mine set to 20%RH as indicated on the display. I read somewhere that this is bad for the molding and the SWM tends to get jammed. There were some suggestions to set at 48%RH. What do you set yours at? Pls advise...
er... 20% is too low! raise to 40% lowest. lenses all have lubricants inside and you definitely won't want them to dry out!

from your signature you seem to have a lot of equipment. don't you already have a dry cabinet?
20% is way too low! U'll destroy your equipment over time. I set mine to around 40%. The correct range should be around 45% - 55%. But sometimes mine drops to around 37%.
If your cabinet's the Pro type one which can set the RH directly, then it's very straightforward. Else like mine, have to twist the dial bit by bit to determine the level.

Once I had this audiophile syndrome - checked equipment specs, read reviews, upgrade whenever could afford, listen to only audiophile quality CDs which are often boring music, visited major hifi shows in town, fidgeted with speakers placement, isolated the rack to reduce vibrations etc ad nauseum. Then the light dawned upon me and also saved money and time: am I listening to music or to the equipment? A fresh air filled my listening room - no more upgrading (system then is still in good use today) and I became happier and enjoying music via my good hifi system.
Same like photography, I intend to shoot and enjoy shooting pictures. The camera and its accessories are just a tool and not to be worried about. See the smile of your subject on a well taken photo, don't look for the pixel resolution of the photos!
