how does it work? and roughly cost how much?

Yes, it can be included if you have a home insurance which start from around $150.
;)

i don't think they have insurance for when you're travelling with your photo equipment or when out taking photos. its always tied to your home insurance i.e. as part of the property, furniture and fixtures insured in your home against theft/fire/damage etc. i've asked so many of my friends doing insurance and they say they don't cater specifically to photo equipment, esp against robbery/loss/damage while out shooting. but US/UK seems to have tons of such insurance schemes. think Singapore simply don't have the market for it.

The main questions is about what do you want to cover? If you want to protect the cam at home against fire, theft etc then your home insurance will do. But check the policy carefully, sometimes certain things are excluded (like expensive jewelry).
Once you go on trips you can get a travel insurance covering loss of luggage. But also here: not all things are covered and for certain high value items you might need to pay a bit more.
For more details you should ask insurance companies to give quotes and most important also state their T&C.

Make sure u keep ur receipts or other proof of purchase, as these are critical documents required to support your claim. This is especially important to note for those who buy used items at B&S.

If you do a search here, there was a thread sometime back about insurance for cams also. Seems only NTUC has.

If I remember correctly, the insurance discussed in CS sometime ago was one where the person insured his equipment with his home contents.

This has some serious problems as you'd only legally be able to claim if your home was broken into or it was subject to fire or water damage. If you lost your camera outside, while shooting in SG or travelling, you'd not be able to make a claim.

Travel insurance isn't an option either as there is a very small amount of compensation for lost/stolen luggage.

The best bet would be to purchase insurance from companies in the UK or US but these are pretty expensive, usually costing several hundreds or even one to two thousand dollars, depending on what and how much you plan to insure. However, their coverage is very, very good and it is usually worldwide.

The thing to note however is that in some countries, the local police would really give you a hard time when you report a robbery because they have experienced many cases where tourist falsely report lost/stolen cameras just to make insurance claims.

There is one flexible home insurance provided by local insurer that covers worldwide schedule items like your cameras and lens but like what satch mentioned; keep the receipts and enclose all descriptions of items to the insurer.

NTUC income has stopped the mobile policy.... where else can I buy camera insurance??

Try insurance brokers like AON, HSBC and etc under the Equipment All Risks coverage. They will insure most of the thing you can think of but the problem is the premium that you are willing to pay.
