I'm deciding between these 2 lenses, 1.4 is almost 4 times the price of the 1.8 from what I've enquired at MS Color.

Is it worth the price? Is there a very significant difference? (if anyone has apple-to-apple comparisons between the 2.. could u direct me to a link)

Thanks!

For me, I find it worthwhile to pay the extra $$ for F/1.4.

f1.8 abt $170
f1.4 abt $440 .. not 4 times la

for me, i started with f1.8 and later sell and bought f1.4

if hav known earlier i wld go straight to f1.4, worth the extra $$

value-for-money choice many pple go for 1.8

Thanks, sorry missed the search button :p

eek.. i got a quote, $120 for 1.8 and $450 for 1.4. Near to 4 times le mah.

S$120 for the F/1.8 is a very good price! IIRC a new one is about S$170-190.

You can reference the prices new F/1.4 in the Buy & Sell or Mass Order threads. Should be in the region of S$400-S$440. An used F/1.4 would be in the S$350-400 region.

Go for the 1.4 if u have the budget.
Apart from being faster, it saves u from buying a 1.8 and keep looking back at the 1.4

I'm using a 1.8, so far it meets my needs for now lah. Its just a question of if you can afford the 1.4 and will really use it, so that its worth the extra dollars..:)

put it this way, either way its a great investment. i use a 1.4. to me having a 1.4 means unless the situation doestn allow for it ie: alot of light. shoot 1.4 lar! i usually shuffle between 1.4 f 4 and f8. damn freaking sharp at f8 and loads of light and beautiful bokeh at 1.4 and balance of both at f4 hahhaha

I just got my 1.8 two days ago, not regretting it.

I reckon by the time I want a 1.4, I'd still want to keep the 1.8 anyway.

Not shooting at 1.4 very often, I will take the 1.8 anytime. The extra $300 can go for a SB600.

I started oout with a f1.8.. then found that I am using this for like 80% of the time indoor.. and in the end sold it and got the f1.4.. and since then it was a gem.

f1.8 is in fact a very good lens.. price vs value.. no horse run one... but the f1.4 is just that bit more sharper and faster...

my advise is get the f1.4 if u will be using it a lot.. or has the budget.. else f1.8 is a very good lens for that price.
