hey guys, have any of you all shot in Rp's cultural centre theatre ? hows the lighting like?

Yup, shot there during my sis graduation. The lighting is kinda good since there are lights coming from the glass panes. But this depends on outside weather though. If you are using flash, only some part of it has low ceilings for you to bounce your flash.

I went to another Hall (forgot the name) to shoot during the buffet reception. That side, lighting quite bad and there is no way you can bounce your flash from the ceiling. So bo bian, boost ISO.

PM me your email if you wanna take a look at the shots. Cos got other ppl's portrait involve, not convenient to display here. :)

Graduation should be at the concert hall not theatre. I was one of the official photog in yr 2007. Concert hall lighting is quite good. Theatre im not sure but to my knowledge alot of money and heart had been spent in outfitting the hall with outstanding equipment which onli esplanade can outrival as compared to most singapore halls.

Ya, i just chatted with TS over PM. The event he is covering is in the auditorium(or concert hall). I tot he meant events holding outside the auditorium and inside the theatre building itself.

I went in and find it kinda dim though (maybe only for that day :dunno:).
The official photographers covering the event was shooting with direct harsh flash during the walk in by the graduates. And as expected, when my sis collected the photos, it was blown. :(

i would be shooting inside the 1000-seater theatre.. thats the auditorium rite?

the theatre = concert hall..there's only one hall..

i know..cos i work here..

TS..which show are you covering ? the upcoming SRJC show ?

the lighting was dim for the graduation ceremony this year as the big heads all thought that the lighting at 100% intensity was too harsh..so we had to keep it to about 70%.. :dunno:

but generally..for shows, the house lights are all off with only the stage lights on...photog in these situation can be quite challenging..

most pro photogs that shoot events here are shooting at ISO 3200 with a f1.4 lens..no flash..so as not to wash out the lighting effects on stage..

yup, i'm shooting the upcoming SR musical... any tips on how to shoot it? have you seen the lighting for the show itself yet?
if not, i only have a f1.8 lens, you think thats enough?

not yet bro..i know what lights are going in..cos i just received the plot..gonna be spending the night rigging it all up..

unfortunately, i don't know what the lighting will look like as there can be millions of combinations..

but yeah..i figure a 1.8 should be pretty all right..

Oh, just this year. On 26th March. I doubt it will be you. The photographer was using a digital SLR. No worries la. ;p

Nevertheless, though the shots were taken with harsh flash, i won't say it was easy. Imagine he has to shoot the 1000 students on stage. Still respect to him la~

Err, i shot with 35mm @f2, ISO 400 and support on the railing in order to get a proper shot on that day leh.

But that was focusing on the audience seats when the graduates walked in (including my sis la) la.

I think if you are focusing on the stage, maybe got chance. Provided the err, spot lights :dunno:, which consists of different colours are not moving to fast and aiming towards the stage la.

And err, i think 85mm a bit tight right?

tight as in?

Oh, tight as in 85mm = 127.5mm perspective on DX camera. Either you got to stand real far away to frame your subject with some surroundings or you can only have your subject in a tight frame.:)

hey thanks for all the help, i'll be going down tomorrow down.. hope to cya there and wish me the best of luck! (ps this is the first event that i would be covering!)
