Im looking at 70-300 or equivalent by next week. Any idea which local shop have stock (if happen to see any) and what's the price gauge ? Don't mind 3rd party lenses. Please recommend. Thanks

Sigma 70-300 APO, Tamron 70-300 Di, all are pretty good. I think the Sigma one should be in stock somewhere, about 300 to 330SGD

Why not get a DA50-200? It's a very decent lens too, much smaller and easier to carry around. Optically it's pretty decent as well.

Ya I agree DA 50-200mm is a sharper lens^^

what is the price of DA 50-200?

i know all wont be as gd as a proper macro...

but wat about the macro functions of the Sigma n Tamron? and can the DA do any decent macro compared to them?

IIRC, DA 50-200mm has 1:4 close-up and DA 50-300mm has 1:4.5 close-up (expected price around RM1600). Sigma and Tamron 70-300mm are 1:2 close-up/macro. If possible go for Tamron as the QC tends to be better;)

I heard from a friend that Tamron version can go as long as $280 in Malaysia. But that is about months ago. Perhaps can ask about it if you pass by. :)

Malaysia forum state it as RM5xx ;) I really need to pick up my Sigma 70-300mm, then maybe have it sold or something:sweat:

Was in a similar situation as you and posted a WTB thread a few weeks ago.

I received a few offers for 2nd hand lenses such as Sigma 70-300, Pentax FAJ 75-300, FA 100-300, FA 80-320. If you don't mind 2nd hand.

I ended up getting a 28-300 superzoom for convenience instead.

Oic. :)

How come wanna sell off? :)

I dun use that range^^; IIRC we (my gf and I) only use that lens on 1 zoo, 1 birdpark and 2 or 3 SBG trips.. the rest of the time with nightmare bro and snowywolf.:bsmilie: I may need get the Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 (when it comes out) if I'm asked to cover some events:sweat:

all should be at the longest end (300mm).. not the sharpest, but not shabby either.. but get a good copy of course, i think it's excellent value for money if you want to dabble in semi-macro, i.e. larger insects like butts

Mine is Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO DG MACRO. It's still with snowywolf. Lazy to go collect back from her:bsmilie: Ya 1:2 macro is good enough for butts and dragons^^

But if you need it in a hurry, this might be difficult to find in local shops.

Anyone used a TAMRON AF28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Macro? Price? Quality?

I am using DA 18-55 and FAJ 70-300 now. Looking for a all in one.

Other option is DA18-250.

Any advise.

At the widest end, 28mm and 18mm is a huge difference, better consider your wide angle needs before committing to the Tamron 28-300mm as your all-in-one.

Tim, just go for 18-250. It's a very compact package if you want a all-in-one with the crop factor of 1.5 (equivalent 27 - 375) And it's quite sharp for a super zoom. I used it extensively during my Phuket trip.

yes, with key emphasis on the "if you want an all-in-one". :)

i think some tests done by someone here showed that it was at least sharper than the pentax kit lens, which isn't too bad considering that the range is so much larger.

that said, if you don't want an "all in one", then maybe skip it. all in ones are always good for travel though, i'm thinking of getting it to save all the trouble of changing lenses while on holiday. maybe just the 10-20, and then the 18-250. not bad at all.
