had my last post locked because i dint read the guidelines! opps...!

anyway, another up for this week!

I've always wondered what it looks like below. So well, i opened a drain cover somewhere near my house and went in to explore!

this was taken with a D80 at...
ISO 200
F 4.5
Focal Length 18

so yea. tell me how you feel about this photo. should i have lighted up the picture more? and hows the composition?

Got the feel.. looks like some horror movie poster.. the left side good for placing the titles.. but for now, I feel there's too space on the left.. a pano crop would look better.

Not too bad, just a little more contrast would be good.

P.S. This is a storm water channel, not sewer. You can't enter the sewer system and I don't think you want to do that for the obvious reasons.....

Yeah, Its one of those I was responsible for. The sewers are sealed to prevent water seepage and disrupts the wastewater treatment process.

Anyway, a bit more cropping would be useful. doesn't really show much.

A bit more exposure would be good and too much of empty space on the left. Nice idea though.

how about stopping down a bit more?

thanks guys! treasure those comments!
ill go back down there and see if i can snap something better.

Actually, the drains are not for public access. Its only meant for maintenance. Just be careful down there, ok? You never know when there is intake of water that could wash you away. The water is not just flowing in the dry weather flow channel only. That's why we design it so big.

had the low light subject been placed a little above the right hand corner of the pic.like just above the photographer signature:think: or at the top right corner.....it wud have created better balance in the whole pic framing:think: i dont like subject at the dead center of the right side of the frame:nono:

I like the concept. A panoramic crop would have led the viewer in to the lighted area nicely, since the empty space above the lighted area doesn't seem to do much currently.

I am a little lost with Newlife's comments though -- isn't the lighted area (including the reflection from the water) already placed at the bottom right of the picture?

kinda cool pic it gave me a lonely feeling? or should i say scary? haha. but as mentioned, the right has a lil' too much space. but overall, i like this pic.

Good, in fact i do like the negative space. It does gives the errie feeling... Prob can do HDR oso. See can capture the rays of light from the opening. But by doing so it might change the entire theme of the picture.

Nice one, conveys a sense of the unknown, perhaps a little less space on the left?

like a nightmare, literally

but way too much blackspace, in fact i also find the reflections redundant due to massive underexposure, you can just showcase the 3 lighted areas and it'd be pretty beautiful.. :)

Wow - I'd have been afraid I might meet some wildlife down there: isn't that how snakes travel around Singapore? They have their own underground transport system :)

Great pic - I like the black space and the architectural look.

picture perfect!

i feel that you do not even need to edit anything.
I find that it is just perfect!

Forget about 1/3 rule, forget about exposure.
I believe it is better to leave it as it is.
