Next would be the changing sea temperatures. This will shift global climate patterns; we are actually starting to see this phenomena already - global food production has dropped, increased incidences of drought & flood, hailstones in Singapore.
The ice shelves in the Artic and Antartic acts as solar mirrors reflecting away sunlight. Without the ice shelves, the Earth will absorb the once-reflected sun rays, speeding up global warming.
We don't have to worry about our grandchildren - we are already witnessing this in our lifetime.
With all due respect. I can understand that you have read quite abit of this and to what extend and if you could name which organisation, institute and the actual name of scientists ( not the politician and lobbists for companies with commercial agendas to use this to push over priced "green" products which actually creates just as much industrial waste, pollution and wastage in producing them). And also how extensive have you read this and live through to make this claim on their behalf. I would agree and have read the same but we should with some responsibility add that we are only quoting what others say and we might have some resevation of fear that this might be so but we can not be absolute.
Just by putting a few indications together like what weather problems we see every now and again in the papers, ice melting or chunks breaking off..etc...we have to be careful how we let our fear and bias distort our rationale and sensibility ..ending with us making what is nothing into something or worst. As for hail storm in Singapore for example.. I have hear news and have seen hailstorm since I was in primary school in the 70s and yes in Singapore. If you study science you will know how it is form and that it does not have to be in some 4 season part of the world for this to occur. Let's not just read of a hail storm, late rainy season, rising water and start thinking..."yahor the world is warming up" People till today... no one have found a way to control the weather nor predict it accurately and here there are people predicting weather hundreds year from now???
I recall in the 70s...there was a period of heatwave.....the "scientists of that generation" predicted a heat wave is upon us and then there was also another prediction of a coming ice age with nothing to do with "global warming" (like it is connected to when AL Gore claimed it) but due to other enviromental factors and then that "trend report went away when they were found to be wrong. Heatwave can be casued by solar flare which comes from the sun. They are so unpredictable and so massive, if we get a flare it can effect radio wave for one example, right up to sending a long period of heat wave hurling to earth. There were scientist who managed to trace for a given period of time of big weather changes happening to earth and they trace it to solar flare intensity. Just like there are even today scientist doing everything to study the case history of our earth as far back as a few million years...it has shown that earth have a number of time "died" from some catastrphic incident...well not the earth but everything that was living and at least the main dominating creatures on the top soil. Case in point the dinosaurs. We have had more then a few ice age too. There sure was no industrial revolution to create those global warming back then too..so how do you explain that? I know I can't but what I am saying is...let's not get into panic mode and start to choose side when we ourselves are only reading popular or marketing hype of others. We should have learnt by now from our own history how many times the world was fooled by just some nutcase or person or group with hidden agendas well verse in influencing people through fear mongering. ( Look at Iraq..where is STILL those so called weapon of mass distruction? but yet that was how that war got approved and started) So if you want to believe those stories, claims and findings you read about an impeding global warming..then you have to also give those on the other side a fair and balance reading too. IN fact there are actuall more then just 2 sides to the stories if you care enough to spend more time to research and build your own conclusion or at least something that is balance and can make more sense to you.
Al Gore has his own agenda too. As much as you have read his good stuff but have you read his not soon good stuff and other ambition as well. Here is a guy for one example talk about "carbon footprint" What he meant is...how much carbon dioxide not just a company or factory makes but also people. Remember we breath in Oxygen and we breath out carbon dioxide. Also what we eat, wear, live on..etc. Here is a guy so bent on saving the world and I hope you have been following his crusade as much as I have ...but this is a guy jetting about all over the world in his nice private jet. Why not take a commercial planes as some of his critics said. So just look at his OWN carbon foot print. He alone contributes how much of it into the atmosphere? His private home and range itself is not global warming friendly. When he first started his stance on this he was saying along time from now...when that did not work he say it will happen in a hunderd year and not too long back he said it is upon us. And in another twist just last year as he was being press more and more on the scientific finding of his work and where he got it, he not claim the fight on Global warming is over and that it is beyond science we should move on to legistration and letting leaders take the steps to do something about it. I guess in a way you can say he is wrangling this from the scientists of the world and taking control of it. That to me is dangerous and more politically motivated then really to help the world heal. But yes I could be wrong.
I would not go into details but..what I am simply saying is...I for one believe we have a pollution problem more then a global warming one. If we can not tackle pollution and war, here we want to tackle global warming. We have so little record and alot of scientist are only just scrapping the surface to database the weather behavour of earth for all this millions of years. What you call a global warming and what you might "think" is mankind's doing?.. it is heavily in the favour that this is just the way it is with mother nature. Mother nature is not PRO-MANKIND....just llike a tsunami will hit..when it hit. It will harm you just becasue that is the way it is.
If tomorrow we all get wiped out like what happen to the dinosaurs..it just might not even be our own fault. A stray asteriod the size half of Singapore will already kill us all BUT earth will still live on and new life will be born again like it had before. While you are worry about global warming in the hundreds of uears fro now..the asteroid is a very real threat. Try watching some of those discovery channel documentary on planetary dangers. It will really scar you then or add to your global warming worries.
Let's try to get a more balance view on this from both side and OTHE SIDES too and if we want to express our own fear and opinion on this....lets be righteous to add in that we only read this from someone and we might be wrong. There is nothing wrong with expressing a fear or an opinion but let's not try to state something you have ourselve not try to scientifically proved it and then try to sell it like we know it to be 100% true.
It does not matter if a govt or more or some very big company gets behind your view or not. Remember at one time all the worlds leaders and religious group for hundreds of years thought the world was flat. And this was not even that long ago that it was proven to be not when people like Christopher Columbus cross the vast ocean and found on the other side of the world... America.
If anyone really have some real fear about whether how much this is really happen then I say take the trouble to go find out as much information as you can to really be sure what you read is real or are you duped into something that cheats you out of something or alter your way of life against your own will, get more out of you whatever that may be and playing into someone elses hand. Not like this has never happen before really.
Problem is the earth is always changing..be it weather wise, the inner core cooling or breaking up, teutonic plates starts to move about..it will happen and we can't stop it. ANd there is no timetable too as to when anything would happen too. Like it or not and even if we are the cause of it..the thing is what are we doing to prepare for it. Under ground housing? Aqua farming or habitation..etc. If the earth is doing this to us..there is no power on earth that we have invented that will change that. A "green car" only delay the inevitable of a so called Global warming but it does not make it go away. So in my view...so much for 'green car or fuel". This is the earth we are talking about not Singapore with a bubble gum ban you can change or enforce so easily as we are only a tiny dot. heheh. Adaptation and evolution that is your answer. We "animals" have been doing this for ions...though we might not be here to see it and maybe not even our great great great grand kid will be around to see it...but it still will happen. IF human kind is as creativity and as strong will to survive, some how we will still be here in one form or another. But that does not mean we should be careless and not give a damn about pollution, AIDS, overpollulation..etc. In my view, before global warming is here to kill us...I can think of a number of things that is already happening and could kill us in our life time.
