hey guys, just like to find out, what sort of focal lengths do you guys use for fashion shows? i'm intending to go down and shoot next week, but not sure if my 50 f1.8 is long enough..

well, i've seen people using that lens before. In general, I guess it's all about what you wanna capture. Full body? Half body? I mainly use 24-85mm as well as 70-200 if the distance is too far. Gives a better bokeh as well.

Depends on where u stand and what you need to capture.

I've tried shooting 24mm (on my Nikon DSLR, translates to 36mm on film format) for full body pics at the side of the runway.

If I'm further, then I'll opt for a 28-75 or longer if I want close up of the face. ;)

I used a 70-300. Had no tickets to go near the stage, so no choice. Ha.

thanks guys for the info!

are tickets needed for all shows for SFF? saw some pics here where photographers are all near the runway. think is the show at central. can somebody help here?

I believe a 50 f1.8 is reasonable if you are not too near to the stage. Totally agree with the point as to what you intend to capture. Other than that, full body shots may not be very possible if you are too near though. Just my thoughts. (=

I use 135mm, 85mm primes but whatever if your poison but its very subjective as to where you're standing, how far, what you intend to capture.

For last week show at Centrepoint, The Central, Tampines Mall are all free. Some shows at Marina Square are free while some are only by invitation from respective brands. Free to take photos too.

Take note: No cameras are allowed in all fashion shows at Paragon and inside tent at Ngee Ann City. They have security posted all over the place to stop.
Shows at Tent@Orchard are either paid ones $10/show or invitational.
See link: http://www.singaporefashionfestival.com.sg/calendar/tent_orchard.html

Hope the above info may helps.

When I went shooting for the Fashion Escapade in Marina, I saw a lot of photographers using Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8 IS

50mm is long enough if u're standing at the front row. But for me i'll use my 70-200 instead for these stage events.
