It's about the equipment - Stupid

What's wrong with my quoting? Truth is you did say that shooting jpegs are being lazy. Whats wrong with asking what you really mean???

Forget it, you only thinks that you are the ONLY one who takes both sides. Alot of people who posted are, and sorry, you're not.

what happened to the rest of my post? if you had bothered to read it as a whole, you would know the meaning, thankyew.

well, the people taking both sides- certainly not YOU ;)

you certainly seem to be basking luxuriously in the fire you have started here.. and cannot even take it when people seem to take sides against your extremely skewed viewpoint of the world. there are always firestarters in most forums.. one look at your post history over the last week, and one can easily tell why you take your viewpoint.

thank goodness i post in all threads equal. and YES, to bump up my post count, that's your favourite phrase. because i live my life based on a number. by the way, let me take my leave to make more snide one-liner selective quoted posts, that , in fact, would REALLY boost my post count, instead of respecting people's opinions i shall start nitpicking at a part of the whole post to make it seem utterly illogical.. thereby allowing person x to respond with countless replies pointing that out and i will proceed to dodge the issue. by doing so, i can start taking the holier-than-thou ground and wait for others to jump in so i can dodge in and out by the sidelines and make more snide remarks at appropriate timings to ensure my post count will go up, up and away.

DON'T WE ALL LOVE POST COUNT? :bsmilie: :bsmilie: i shall not indulge you any longer.

hmm....i have always shot jpegs (at the lowest compression), and have always pp'ed my jpegs. guess i have been too lazy so far to shoot in raw, though many pros swear by shooting in raw.

:)

The world's a bit schizo eh? :bsmilie:

hahaha....they may have to agree that ken rockwell was right after all. :bsmilie:

Those clowns were not meant to be taken seriously to begin with. At their very best, they were just entertainers.....

all the same, it's very comforting to know that great shots can be taken using cheap and humble equipment. :)

Hello Lazer - long time no see. Anyway, something interesting for people here to munch on.

SAF Pioneer photographers are using the D3 and top gear. Airforce AFIMC (Airforce Publicity) is using the D100 and D70s.

Interesting huh?

Hey Chan, long time no see too..

Very interesting indeed. D3 you say..

Yes, D3 indeed, with the latest ammo dump of lenses to complement this machine gunner.

Airforce (which I think personally should be using the D3 instead due to the unpredictability of shooting fast moving airplanes and hence the need for the high frame rate), is using a 3FPS D70 instead. Amazing huh?

just curious, who produced better pics? SAF Pioneer or Airforce?

Pioneer covers all services ie the whole of SAF and Air Force Pub only covers Airforce. Emphasis and apportioning of budget etc etc within each services and joint is another matter altogether. I believe it is not about the equipment in this case, most of the time the one approving the purchase, in this case, photographic may not even be able to differentiate between a PNS and DSLR, no malice intended its just the way things are.

BTW if by now ie Mar and you do not have any extra funds to spend on getting the D3, I think you can wait for the new financial year lor :bsmilie::bsmilie:

I haven't the faintest idea. I do not go observe their photos.

Anyway if I not wrong, for external events (like Saingapore Airshow 08) the airforce photographer (NSF) will take out his own camera, the 1D mk 3.

Also, I agree with chngpe that it is more of a case of "whole pulls more strings" and "who holds more power" when it comes to procurement of equipment. My post was to make a point that Airforce photographers still manage to take decent photos with a 2004 digital camera, and the D3 for pioneer was just added help, not that it would improve photo quality significantly.

Oh btw, fiscal year closing already. ePS purchases not allowed anymore but is Nikon in their database? Hmm.... D3... Non catalogue item.. Buy and Claim.. $7999.00 I can imagine the officer's face :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

Suddenly I remember when Conan O'Brien in his Late Night With Conan O'brien (NBC) show once said that a lot of man who has the Small P**** Syndrome drives humvee. :bsmilie:

i remember reading a story in one of those UK photo mags about a prielli calendar shoot. the photographer, i can't remember his name, was paid some huge sum to shoot the images for the calendar for a particular year (i think it was early 00's or there abouts).

i don't remember the location or model, but what stuck in my head were the following:

- he used exclusively film, hundreds of rolls
- his equipment of choice was the pentax 6x7 (half a dozen units or so), and apparently he had some exclusive arrangement with pentax to make parts in order to keep his cameras working.

and what really got me was that he had an army of 'assistants' who loaded the film, changed the lenses, constatnly checked and set the exposure of the cameras. all he did was compose, focus and shoot (probably with a bit of directing thrown in). and when the roll was empty, he'd hand the camera over to one of his assistants and a fresh camera would immediately replace that.

but that was what he was paid for, his vision. and the pirelli people thought he was worth every dollar.

gear does help
knowing how your gear works definitely helps (having assistants who know how your gear works helps too)
but knowing what to do with your gear and your vision is what make the money

Good article... I was watching an NBA game. Being a cheapo, I bought tickets for the 2nd deck. With my 18-200mm f6.3, i was unable to take good and sharp action shots.... my lens was simply not fast enough. With a F2.8, I am sure my chances of an action shot will be higher.

Previously, I didn't read much about my camera, and was simply taking pictures randomly.... something that PnS can easily replicate. Hence DSLR didnt give me the advantage at all.

All in all, I think we are reasonably intelligent enough to understand what both sets of views are, but simply pretend to be less intelligent to understand them... hence the great debate.

Me...? I may not agree with you... but I respect your right to your opinion.
