This is to pull out a message hidden somewhere in another thread.
bLuRbEnG has given a very useful advice to those who bought gears from US retailers. Bear in mind that the retailers do not deal with International Warranty. Need to wait for the gear to arrive in Singapore. Then send the proof of purchase (copy of receipt) and Serial numbers of the gear to Pentax USA. They will verify your application. If approved, an International Warranty Card will be physically sent to your address.

For the benefit of those getting their Pentax from USA.
I have dug out the old email from Pentax USA about how to get International Warranty.
If you need further information, you may like to send an email webform to Pentax USA.

P.S. Pentax USA has approved my warranty application for a K10D body and a DA18-250mm lens. They notified me that the International Warranty Cards are being sent to me. Hence both camera and lens are eligible of International Warranty. Hope this helps.

I interpret it that they are sending me the warranty card or some equivalent paper so that I can obtain local warranty service, when necessary.

Thanks. So what did you fax in? The original receipt plus the S/N of the camera? How about lens? Just provide the lens' S/N and receipt? I'd fax mine over and see how ...

I guess it should be the same as camera. Receipt plus your name, address, and phone number. The model of the lens and the S/N of the lens.

I don't see the problem. You have the lens and receipt. I thought that is good enough.

I emailed scanned copies to Joe Virgil instead of faxing him.

These scanned copies are (a) receipt of purchase which contains the camera model, lens model, my name, address and phone number. (b) The Serial number card of the camera. (c) The Serial number card of the lens.

The latter two cards were found inside the original retail boxes of the camera and lens.

Since your case is slightly different from mine, there is no harm sending them all the information they required and see how it transpires subsequently.

Thanks. You just saved me several bucks (on fax)

Cheers!

I think email to Pentax USA will be better rather than faxing...

If i recall you should get it in abt 1-2 weeks time...

Sounds good to me. Thanks again.

Yup email will do...just provide them the information they required...payment invoice, serial no. etc...

but if i remember correctly the warranty period starts from the online purchase date, i bought mine in Nov but only get my stuff in late Dec, but the warranty card they send us indicates warranty from Nov with 1 yr international. Anyway at least 1 got my international warranty

Is the shipping/billing address (on your receipt) a SG address or US one? Mine is US address, wonder if I'm entitled for the warranty

@fengwei:
Why you bother obtain Int. Warranty Card from Pentax USA? There's already Pentax Singapore which is able to issue an Int. Warranty card?
International Service Network in Asia
The International Warranty service will be provided at the service stations marked by “ IW/S ” located in other than the country/area where the product was originally purchased.
In case you request the International Warranty service, present the valid International Warranty card together with the product.

So SHRIRO (SINGAPORE)PTE.LTD. has IW/S sign. It means they able to issue an Int. Warranty Card and must receive Int. Warranty Card.

Also read this:
International Warranty Card
If you bought your PENTAX product in another country, and you are coming to the United States, we can send you an International Warranty Card to cover your product while you are within the United States. You will need to send us the following items:

1. A copy of your dated proof of purchase.
2. The serial number on your PENTAX product (if it has one).

So basically, Shriro should be able to do the same since they have IW/S sign over them. If the lens purchased outside SG, it must deserve to receive Int. Warranty Card from Shriro.

Maybe someone would like to check with Shriro and let us know the outcome, ;p

Oh... i must add this. Another pentaxian from Switzerland told me that Pentax Switzerland did issue Int. Warranty Cards for his lenses which were purchased from USA.
He just sent the copy of the receipt (scanned) of the lens.

International Service Network in Europe

As you can see, Pentax Switzerland also have IW/S sign over them.

I read it another way, from what i understand, the international warranty certificate would be provided by the countries you purchase the equipment. If a visitor purchase a pentax in SG, shriro is required to provide a international warranty certificate on presentation of the required documents. Using this the visitor could service the camera in their home country. Shriro is also oblige camera cover by International warranty issues by other countries.
