I was wondering if anyone here has links to websites that teach you how to create flash websites for portfolios.
I am looking around for a website that teaches you how to do it, or maybe one that gives you a basic template to start with.

I have basic flash knowledge and prefer to use Adobe Flash/Dreamweaver to do it as I have them installed.

p.s. I am not looking for sites such as www.flickr.com that lets you bulk upload albums as I already have an paid account with them to do it. I have my own web hosting so its not a problem.

Just go to the Macromedia/Adobe online tutorials. Slideshows are a very common example and they give sourcecode too.

i always go to this site >> www.tutorialized.com
a lot of flash tutorials and u can search also...
good luck... :)

anyway, u might want to publish your site with the latest flash player (currently version 9) so everybody can see it...

Oh you mean it isn't forward compatible? Thats odd. I only have flash 6 at the moment.. Upgrading would cost me some money

I can see the website. It's pretty neat!

it's definitely forward compatible, don't worry. I used to work for Macromedia Flash (I was Level 2 Supervisor for Support and Training) and you really have nothing to worry about. :)

I have come up with something in the end.

Its not that ideal but would do for now.

The pictures in there are not that great, I know :embrass:

hey, neat work!! U did this from scratch?

is it easily update-able?

i'm looking around for one such site too but templates are either too inflexible or designers are quoting me way too off my budget...

It's very easy to create one that will then just use an XML file (easy for you to update) as an "index". So whatever pictures that you've uploaded will automatically show up so long as you update the xml file too. You can even add captions, etc etc as part of the xml data.

Nope. I used an existing template I found off the net. It is considerably easy to update I guess.
I am still too new to do it from scratch. Though I hope one day I can.
Maybe after my exams I will try.

This is the method I used as well.

Care to share where you got it from? From what I see, it seems to be a paid template. :)

If you really want to pay for something you can get for free, there's many many sites. Just google "flash slideshow template"

Yeap it is. Got it from winkletwebdesign, relatively easy to use.

did u get the full version (+ .FLA files)?

According to the site:
* Note to Flash and website developers: Because these are DYNAMIC Flash templates, the necessity to modify and recompile .FLA source file is eliminated, therefore the .FLA files are not included in base prices listed on this page. .FLA files can be purchased at an additional cost (see product descriptions on product category pages for purchase options).

To me, that's greek.... I assume that if I get the .FLA files, it will allow me more flexibility in the general aesthetic design? Number of photos allowed is still gonna be restricted rite?

For someone who's not web design savvy, would you recommend this?

If you get the .FLA files, you can modify and customize it to your heart's desire.

That, or the free versions on adobe.com, are good for people who don't want to have to deal with actionscript coding. :)

No. I din think the additional cost was justified
