i had a friend who bought a FUJI camera from Japan. No complains at all. surely there is the uncertainty for lack of a warranty but if it $300 and u frequently change cameras should be ok. u going Japan and buy or order online and they ship? make sure u get insurance if shipping over cameras r delicate......

i gg Japan in April...so may be considering buying

the chargers should work is it?

but the plug head they provide is different (2 flat metal pins slot) so you may have to purchase extra adapter head.

My suggestion is, fixed on the model that you want to buy. 1 or 2 days before you depart, check the price here again. I bought my Nikon F90S in Japan, and is MIJ. The only negative part is, you will have to check the charger whether are they universal input, ie: in voltage from 100 - 220v. I am sure certain models will have worldwide warranty. Otherwise, you might need to think about it as I have few incidents where the DC need to send in for repair (various brand) within 1 year after purchase.

I have not been to Japan for 10 over years, so, I am not sure of the price over there now. But I think their accessories are sure to be much more attractive than Singapore.

Good luck.

ok, thanks a lot y'all!

go www.kakaku.com to check prices n location of shops before going there. To save more money, pay in cash. Some shops offer lower prices and they only accept cash as they do not have credit card machines.

Bros,
Anyone know what will i be charged, as in taxes, whne i get back..also wanting to buy the ixus 860 there..Read somewhere that goods above $400 will be liable for GST..but the cam only $300+..anyone done this before?

Are sony and panasonic cameras cheaper in Japan or HK since it is tax free? :)

I think most the Digi cam in Japan are cheaper. But warranty is an issue. I brought my Canon G9 from Yodobashi store. They are so kind to change the manual to english one without me asking for it. I paid less than S$600.

If the saving is huge, I guess it pay off to buy from Japan.

Never had the impression lens were cheaper in Japan (i.e. Akihabara, Tokyo). Always prefer to buy them in Hong Kong, always cheaper. Cosmetics for your wife/GF mostly better in Japan :)

travelling expenses is higher in JP than HK. but i would to go JP for R n R. Lovely place, best services, most polite ppl there. =)

I might be going down to Japan this year end to do some equipment shopping, hope can get gd deals. ;)

Hmmm, 1 thing to take note. Some electronics bought in JP has only Japan lauguage... wordings on the set itself is also in Japanese
