Trying my new camera (D80 with 18-200VR) first time in the Zoo. I'm new to photography. C&C are welcomed so I can improve on it. Most taken in auto/P mode. :)

Bird Series

If the bird is your main sub, you may like to move in closer to make the bird stand out. keep shooting bro. :)

You either move in closer or try to crop the photo. Also follow the rules of the third.

Thanks for the advises. Points noted.:)
How abt this?

nah doesnt work imo

the bird has no contrast plus alot of space around, partially due to the plants aorund maybe

Bro,

Hope you don't mind i edited your picture a little... i think this is what the other bros meant by going closer... but its still not close enough...

and also personall i think taking the profile of a bird isn't very complementing... background also very distracting... stem of the plant also very weird... dunno how to crop it to look nicer...

But is does have very nice colours...

 try at "pa jiaoing" i'm still waiting to get my long zoom for my cam before i start to pa again...

Thanks for your feedback. I also feel no strong contrast but how to make the background more differentiate from the target? Still not sure to play with DOF.:what:
OK. Just check it's taken at F5.6 1/30" 200FL with auto/P mode.
Am I right that if I change Fstop lower/higher and increase speed will give me better DOF? So I have to use Manual mode to do that?

Thank you for enlightening. How do you make the background blur w/ SW?? Interesting.
Sorry, what is "pa jiaoing"? Shoot bird? Not really, this bird is just right in front of me within 1-2 meters.;p (Focal length=200mm)

Ah... For the blurring part i just selected your bird and the flower using magnetic lasso. And select inverse. Then use gaussian blur... play around until it looks not too "fake" usually the radius bout 4 is good...

Do try to use a BIG aperture if your background isn't interesting... so we can focus on the main subject... and in this case the bird and the flower is the main subject... can't say much about the background... its just "there" nothing to look at...

Maybe you can crop from your original picture to show more of the bird... that would be more focus instead of just showing the whole pictures. Do look around in the forums for other "pa jiaoers" some has readll nice capture of birds in singapore :)
