Microsoft offers to buy Yahoo for $44.6 bln in cash, stock

By Aude Lagorce
MSFT 32.60, +0.40, +1.2%) on Friday offered to buy Yahoo, Inc. (YHOO:Yahoo! Inc
YHOO 19.18, +0.13, +0.7%) for $44.6 billion, or $31 a share, in a mix of cash and stock. The offer represents a 62% premium on the closing price of Yahoo on Thursday. The software giant said the deal would create a "more efficient" company with total annual synergies of $1 billion, driven by audience critical mass, increased value for advertisers and operational efficiencies. Microsoft said it's already developed a plan to involve both companies' employees in the integration and would offer significant retention packages to Yahoo engineers and key leaders. Microsoft said it expects the deal to regulatory approval and to be completed in the second half of 2008.

eh cannot complain hor.. what are you unhappy about? you shouldn't be lamenting on this and be finding a solution out of this.

gotta love it when people turn personal when things don't go their way pat pat

on another note, looks like bill gates is running his tactics again! :bsmilie:

huh, no more yahoo mail???? news frm?

It cant be that bad. Maybe they need more economies of scale and form up to compete with the big G?

Market competition gotta be good for us I guess. Dont think Microsoft/Yahoo will be as dumb as to remove some features or whatever. What's more I think they need to combine their innovativeness to combat the other giant.

i can't see how bad this can be.. why would yahoo mail not be free still? hotmail got bought over by MS and is still providing free hotmail. There's so many free email providers around, if they want to charge then change over to gmail. :D Google rocks!

I have no idea what you're talking about you still have a long way to go my boy.

if you study how google works and their business model, it is little wonder how they are successful. It's not their technology that brought them the money, although their search algorithm is indeed amazing.

The M$ machine continues rolling on... I wonder if another anti-trust will come up :dunno:

probably not... in this market (internet search and advertising), Google is king...

no lah, Billy is retiring... now its Stevo in charge... ;p

one more thing (;))... today's news is that Yahoo and Google might cooperate instead... I think this is a more threatening situation than Yahoo getting bought over by Microsoft... the 2 are the leaders in their market already, and their combined might would be really worrying... especially if they decide to split the market between the 2 of them and streamline their product ranges by not overlapping...
