witll this setup work fine? new to this thing, i would like to know if i will encounter problems with this.

thanks.

no problems.

just note that effective focal length is 80mm since 400D has 1.6x crop.

u may get purple fringing (CA) while shooting wide open at some high contrast scenes....

that's not because of the setup, it's because of the lens itself.
the body and lens works perfectly fine. :)

sorry .. didnt make myself clear... yeah, both the body and lens work fine... i bought the 1.8 too ... just thought that he may want to know abt the CA on the 50 1.8 ...
the 50 1.4 also seem to exhibit the same problem.. took some test shots with both ..

Try the 50 f/1.2 instead.

I looking for a 50mm f1.4 though. Currently own a 50mm f1.8 and a 17-83mm F4~5.6 IS USM.

I actually prefer to use the 17~83mm lens more often. Not because its convenient, but i find that the IS does help me alot. The pictures somehow seem clearer. And i like the weight. Unlikes the super plastic-ky 50mm F1.8.

17-85mm you mean?

I also use the 50mm f/1.8II with my 400D. Works like a charm.

i was thinking of the 50 1.4 too, but still cant come to terms with forking out $555 for it yet .. maybe when the 1.8 wears down, i will look at getting that...

I took the bait and went on with the f/1.2 cos i love portraitures. IS for me is not necessary for any focal length below 300mm.

so bottomline is what? budget, can only affors this "plasticky".

thanks everyone.

bottomline is, the lens is quite good for its price... of course there are better, but the price can be 4x ~ 10+x more than the 50mm f1.8 ...

just note that CA can be present when shooting at f1.8 .. f1.4 also has CA .. if u want i could post a cropped shot..

take a look at the sigs of some of the other guys, they have this lens in their arsenal even though they can afford to get L lens
