Prosumer vs DSLR

I am currently holding on to S6500FD, looking forward to upgrade to DSLR (D80 kit)

What difference can I expect from a DSLR?

1. Speed - faster reaction wit DSLR.
2. Optic - better optical quality and flexibility to use different lens for DSLR.
3. weight - heavier (in most cases) for DSLR
4. cost - DSLR more costly

This is a very typical question. When you are asking it, IMO you are not ready for this step.
Main question: are you ready to invest money in new gear? You will need at least US$300-400 for new bag, lenses, filters etc. to reach approximately same zoom range.

difference = buybuybuy....

can't upgrade much on a prosumer

hee hee... the 6500 is a pretty decent prosumer... it has one of the largest sensor on a prosumer camera

Difference...? Alot...

DSLR has:

1) No live view
2) No chance of squeezing inside small bags
3) No option to switch off "shutter" sound
4) No chance of saying "I'm really just a beginner...really..."
5) No movie mode
6) No retractable lenses (into the body)

and the list goes on...

There are DSLRs with live view now. But normally on the higher end models.
Small bags? Some prosumers are as large as a small DSLR, so not much diff there.
Beginner? There's a beginner everywhere, you need to learn right?
Movie? Get a video cam, they are better.

And actually the most important thing. With a DSLR, expect to work on it to get a better image. You need to PP it.

LOL! ya and everyone always say "WAH PROFesional AH" ... which makes me reluctant to bring it out to shoot unless its an event or major family outing ...

Its all about composition... :dunno:
