I'm a big fan of nature and animals. I've got myself a second hand D70 with the kit lens. However, a trip to the zoo showed that it's insufficient when the animals are so far away from me.

Could you recommend me a telephoto lens for my D70 that can allow me to really take animals up close and well as well. I have come across things like image stabilizers and all but given my shoestring budget, I won't be considering that. Will be getting a sturdy tripod instead.

Thanks!

Thanks for the swift reply!

70 - 300mm? Sorry I'm pretty new to all this. Could you let me know like the model or make or something more concrete so i am able to read up more?

Hi fi5hbone

You can try the Nikon website for more information regarding their lenses line up.

You can consider the 3rd party makers as well

Cz 500mm if they have it:bsmilie:

The 70 - 300mm seems like it's going for about $650.00. Is this the right one? I guess I will be making a trip to Sim Lim after pay day this month then. :)

There are a few models.

70-300 G
70-300 ED
70-300 VR

Look for the one tat fits your usage and budget. If on low budget, try the G model and stop down to f8. ;)

Haha, how far much cheaper? So at least I will have a rough idea when I go down. Which shop do you normally go to anyways? I presume you are talking about shops in Sim Lim right?

You can always look for a 2nd hand from the Buy & Sell section.

There is also 3rd party option. I have a Sigma one lying around which I hardly use.

If you care to take an evening or so and surf out this fine website forum, you will no doubt not just get very good informations on a number of topic but also a segment that has a database on prices for various equipment sold around Singapore. It is alot faster sometime then posting a question....and it's just a click a way.

CLick this link to go look up the lens and the price.

If you are still not sure you should go to the singapore Nikon Site to read up the readily available detailed product information on all 3 type of 70-300mm zoom lens and more. They even have retail pricing for most of the lens to refer to as well.
