Dear CS,

Can i bring a D SLR with a 70-200 zoom lens to a concert? Forgive my ignorance! i have never been to a concert locally.

Going to Jay Chou Concert this Friday.

PS: If can't, any advise or tips to get through the equipments from the security into the concert?

I just went for Liang Jing Ru's concert last month. And i brought my camera in, they did check my bag... as long as not Video recording then you are allow to bring it in. Anyway DSLR can't take video. If i remembered correctly, only 1 lens is allow.

Thanks

i remember no. but if you bring a compact one, you may "pass thru"

It also depends on what concert. I remember last time got people write to newspaper, the security guards at one concert shoot gren lasers at photographers

I hate the clicking sound and even the beeping of those SLRs in concert. But if it's a pop concert instead of a real one, who cares except the guards?

:thumbsd: for the inconsiderate and clueless photogs that spoilt your experience grantyale.

At the very least the focus beep should have been turned off. Not everyone has a "silent" shutter mode unfortunately...

Aiyo.. i'm worry that they may confiscated my camera during the security check. As my equipment is not very small either... Dunno can hiong(sneak pass) into it or not

I know a lot peoples told me that the security are quite lenient to compact as i believe the compact can't really zoom in that far and the image quality wouldn't be able to produce for production use due to low lighting. But for SLR i'm quite skeptical about whether are they lenient to it.

Anyone know the consequences if they caught u snapping pictures with your D SLR in a concert? Confiscated the items or a verbal warning?

some 'nicer' securities will ask u to keep u in ur bags..some harsher ones will ask u to follow them to the locker area to deposit ur cameras..which means game over. so it depends which type of security u face.

wrap ur equip into "presents" lor ;)
they wun noe wad's inside

Sorry for OTing!

This is not a place to talk abt Advise, maybe the MOD shld move this thread to relevant forum

Usually cannot bring in camera. But might be able to get those compact camera in.

Anyway, go enjoy the show and imprint the visual in your memory lah. ;)

Sorry all,

to have started the advisory thread in the wrong area.

Btw preferably what setting would you all use in concert?

Let say i'm using a 70-210 f/4-5.6 and Camera ISO set at 800 & above.

:)Wow hope u enjoyed ytd's concert.. so in the end did u bring ur camera in? Did the guards do a check?

;) i manage to sneak thru.

But actual fact they don't allow.

The best way is put your camera in your gf's handbag/purse. Generally they don't check girls handbag.

Difficult to carry telephoto zoom lens so carry 18-200 like zoom and look for place closure to stage.

I went to Jacky Cheung sat concert, did see some sign saying no photography allowed. And before the concert start, the huge screen also show no photography... but now and than during the concert some fans will take photos. Especially the last part almost all the VIP seats rushed to the front to take photos. Never see anyone stopping them.

Also saw a lady took out her Pentax DSLR sitting near me took some shoots... But I can't guarantee as different concert may be handled by different security company. I also wonderng should I bring my A100 or dimage A2 to Sam Hui concert in March
