just shooting in the dark, couldn't really find any information about him on the net, not in english anyways

would be more than happy if someone could direct me to like, a website or something, i did read a short history on his life and saw some of his prints in the uffizi gallery in florence.. but would really love to find out in more detail, wonder if people like eikin have heard of him

thanks and cheers :)

pretty cool stuff. i won't pretend that i enjoyed the uffizi gallery btw, ancient stuff bores me.. but at least that was that little exhibition of his works there. :bsmilie: oh, and that delightful toilet beneath the building. i spent most of my time there taking pictures of the toilet. now why does that sound so wrong? :)

u hot link la. not working the link.... ;)

hmmmm... i like this kind of artwork. but i havent got the chance to study asian artists as per yet.

i am still studying the arts movement in europe and stuffs like cubism, art noveau, modernism, etc etc........

and my lect mia for 2mths already. and we are sitting here collecting dust also...

ahhh i don't really like formal studies, i just look at what i like i guess..

not sure if that's a very good approach, but that's what i do :dunno:

wa, you're up very early, if you're in singapore, hee hee

Because there is no one using the toilet. :)

actually got leh, but i wasn't taking the toilet per se hee hee

more like taking pictures of the path leading to the toilet

no i haven't heard of him. block print art is quite a specialised field. scanned through some writings online, probably not much new information you might not know. anyway he chose block print because he wanted to do away with excesses (anything that's considered inconsequential to his artistic expression, including colours) he only want a medium that records nothing but his painful memories of his being drafted into the Japanese army for WW2.

so it's actually done this way?

yes, there is a lot to do with war in his prints that i saw. hmmmmmm i wonder why there is no real collection of information about him/his works online.

something like it, but his block prints are made of copper.

he has had a couple of exhibitions, like these

ahhh, ok i see some i haven't seen before

do prefer his more detailed works though

i do recall this one called 诗人 (or poet), very very cool, a pity it is nowhere to be found

in any case i did take one quick snap with my hp camera (which explains the horrible, horrible quality).. didn't want to take my dslr as photography is technically not allowed within the gallery, maybe i should have though  at least if i had known it was not so easy to find his works on the net

ah yes, that series i saw was from "elegy of a new conscript"; more information here and here

when galleries put no photography allowed, it's actually best to just follow it. sometimes galleries have some form of agreement with the artist or his curator, it's not nice if pictures get published on internet without permission and are traced to particular galleries.

yar, i guess so, and i know what you mean

i usually don't, unless there is something else to take other than just the works alone

that said, other than that some of the artefacts/paintings might be light sensitive
