Which would be better? A higher megapixel cam? or a cam which can zoom very far is better?
For compact, personal use, usually people dun really print out an extremely large size of photo lk posters. But still, would like to find out what are the preferred choice.

Your views pls.

IMHO...... For a PnS camera, anything more 6 MP is a waste of time. The smaller sensor can't handle noise so well.

I would prefer a higher Optical Zoom..... but only if the camera have a good IS system. :D

agree with the pixel count vs noise and also IS in important (if u r lazy to carry tripod). instead of zoom, my opinion is quality of lens is more important.

i'd say a wider end (some are much wider than others) is more important (than the tele).

cus much easier to shoot group potrait (which is wat most ppl use P n S for).

Higher optical zoom. Higher megapixel won't make much difference to the quality of the images on a PnS. Hopefully there is something from wide to tele and together with IS/VR. IMO, a 10 MP PnS does not make any difference from a 7.1MP one.

Wow.... totally agree. A 28mm or even better, 24mm at its widest. Sadly most PnS nowadays still stuck at 35mm..... only the newest of the new is at 28mm. :(

For point and shoot camera go for a better optical zoom. Higher mega pixels won't make must difference if all you are going to print are holidays photos.

I will choose a larger optical zoom over a higher megapixel anytime. And to me, the wider end is more important. At least 28mm, best would be 24mm.

any model to recommend?

For a prosumer cam i want:
(1) At least 10~12x optical zoom
(2) Optical image stabilizer will be fine
(3) A larger CCD like the Finepix S6500
(4) Maunual focus and zooming with external ring
(5) Operates on AA baterries
(6) Included accessories like lens hood
(7) Fine picture settings at 6MP would be enough for now
(8) Heavier in weight do not matter
(9) Shutter speeds of 1/4000~30sec, bulb
:bsmilie:

I prefer a faster lens, bigger sensor and less lag time when taking a picture.
