which lens is better ? Leica or Carl Zeiss ?

I think this debate started since the beginning of the 20th century..... If I'm not wrong Carl Zeiss has greater resolving ability (sharper) while the Leica has better contrast making it APPEAR sharper.... My comments are based on what I read in photography books... not rich enough to own either...

both are good. u can't go wrong with either one.

Both companies purchase their glass components from Schott Glaswerke AG. It is their individual coatings that make the differences.

Both are equally good but had to depend on your preference. When there is competition, there is comparison. :D

anyone knows ?

The one mounted on your camera that you have on hand, whether a plastic holga, your camera phone or the best Canon L lens on a 1D MKIII.

The major factor in taking better pictures is YOURSELF.

Use a Sony Alpha... Try the "Beercan" (It was designed for Leica, so technically a leica lens) and try the CZ lens. ;)

Both made very good lenses. Just different character.

Quality control and workmanship wise Leica should be better, because u are paying for it.

Totally agreed....I am using Leica lens presently - excellent contrast.....Carl Zeiss is sharper....no regrets for both types of lens if you intend to own either one.

Price is definitely a factor but worthwhile saving to get them....

If you have the chance, try the Voigtlander SL 40 mm f/2 Ultron. Super sharp lens. Great contrast. You'll get the best of both worlds (Zeiss and Leica).:)

Another great lens to consider is the Voigtlander SL 90mm f/3.5 APO Lanthar.

Throw in another Lens make, Schneider :)

I prefer Schneider over Carl Zeiss (medium/Large format)

Carl Zeiss over Leica (35mm SLR)

Leica over Voigtlander (35mm Rangefinder)

But all can shoot beautiful pictures that are priceless :)

Commercially all those lenses are good for any job any time ;)

I will give you yet another great German lens maker, Rodenstock.

Rodenstock makes some of the best large/medium format lenses. The resolving power of Rodenstock lenses is world-class .

Check it out here (Note: scroll further down).
