as above?

what are good lens that can go for low lighting while still maintaining a high shutter.

so get something with lower f value will solve the prob. thanks =)

How low is your low lighting? If it's very low even f/2.8 won't help, not even f/2.

I heard there is an f1 lens.

not total darkness those kind. cos i was shooting wedding earlier and have to start at 4am when MUA arrived. room lighting is totally cmi, oni a table lamp and bulb was used, no light from outside. so will a 2.8 or 2 work in such situations?

simple, f/2.8 or wider :)
IS lens does not affect shutter speed.

Of course IS affects shutter speed - that's exactly what it's for - to allow you to use lower shutter speeds and still get sharp images than you could otherwise, hand-holding the camera. This is particularly useful in low light as long as the subject matter isn't moving too much for the slow shutter.

Nope. I suggest u use bounced flash.

indeed..you can shoot at lower shutter speed, but IS/VR does not directly affect shutter speed , turning IS/VR on does not change the shutter speed, say 1/25 to 1/100, but IS helps to shoot in lower shutter speed.
you can shoot a relatively stationary subject at low shutter speed and IS enabled.
if subject moves, IS may not be able to help, bigger aperture will definitely help.

as said, flash is recommended ;)

I would consider the 50mm f1.8 first or if you can afford it, 50mm f1.4

Btw, the larger the aperture, the smaller the DOF.

Can you handle such DOF at longer focal lenghts?

use fast lens in conjunction w high ISO, tripod (if practical).

Fast lens is good for low lighting but not for group shots. For group shots, use external flash and smaller aperture like f5.6 or smaller.

Jump ship to Nikon and get the D3. It has crazy high ISO settings.
