Hi... I am currently looking for a new digicamera from Sony.
upgrading from my present DCS T33 as the 2.5" LCD a little too small for me (now), flash not too powerful for night shots.

Heard about the latest T2, tried meddling with the T200 at Sony Gallery...
I love the large LCD 3.5" screen from the T200, but been almost "buttonless", and having read from the forum about the pros n esp the cons of a near 100% touch screen camera, makes me think twice about the T200. (blurred screen from using/ handling, must wipe the LCD very often etc)

Basically, I will be using the camera mostly for fishing trips.
I can't affrod to use / bring anything too complex or bulky on such trips, and I am not intending to take super crystal clear pics to be blown up to poster size (clear will do for normal photo developing), thats why am considering the above few choices.

I had a friend who's using the T20... thinks it has a 3" LCD screen with some buttons.
performs to his expectations all the time for our fishing trips.
but being an "obsolete" model now, thats why I need help in these following few choices (though for now, I am more in favour of the T200 but open to all comments/advice)
--------->
T2 (2.7" LCD) 3X optical zoom, face detection
T200 (3.5" LCD) 5X optical zoom, face detection
T100 (??? LCD) zoom?? face detection?? maybe something in between the above 2 models?

My main concerns :
1.a larger possible LCD screen for easier screening of photos taken on the spot for its clarity (if minor details seemed blur, at least can re-take on the spot again)
2.relatively easy to operate (even in it Auto mode) :)
3.relatively powerful flash for night shots (in very dark environment) on auto mode/SL (not using night mode etc, will be using the Auto mode most of the time for simplicity)
4.clear, detailed macro shots
5.sports pack if available (not into diving so wont be needing the aqua pack)

lastly, whats the best/lowest prices (packages) for the T200? T2? T100?
And from where/which shop? Pls advise.

Had read somewhere here that the T200 costs $575 (but didnt state from where), where Sony Gallery's current sales promo till month end is $649 for the T200 & $599 for the T2.
http://www.sony.com.sg/microsite/sonydays/promo/digital_camera/digital_camera.html
(think maybe the T100 has become 'obsolete' too, cant seem to find it under Sony webpage products)

Thanks all!
:)

Well, for one thing, PNS flash is never good for night shots. Not powerful enough. Only pns I know good for night shots are from Fujifilm. The F31, F40FD and F50FD

Hi felixcat8888...
thanks for your input.
I understand your point but it seems that my current DSC T33's flash is not as powerful or rather not to my expectations even compared with some of my friend's older Sony DC. For eg., taking a pic in a very dark environment at night, I need to use a torch light to shine on the subject first and when the photo is taken, for eg, a fish photo, the silverish part of the fish body is clearly visible but the tail and fins part becomes dark, kind of 'blend' in with the night. sigh...
My friend's T20 is much much better for such applications, so I was hoping getting a new model (T2, T100 or T200) would help solve my problem.

Hi Glador,
thanks for the comparision chart. Much appreciated. I assume that's not a local webpage right? If not, the prices quoted there for the T200 are very tempting. Haha...
seems that the 3 models are pretty much similar, with the obvious difference in their LCD screen sizes and prices. Haha...
As mentioned, I was intending to go for the T200, but only worried about the fully touch screen feature, where the T100's 3" LCD is acceptable to me, and it's not fully touch screen.
Main worry for touch screen - blurred screen from handling & having to clean it all the time & maybe in bright sunlight, image may not be visible like in the case of PDA phones?
This is something I am not too sure about cameras' LCD screen, anyway, we don't hold the camera's screen facing up like a HP's.
Anyone can advise on the visibility of images of camera's LCD display under bright sunlight condition as well? Thanks!

And also.... anyone can adivse where to get the best (or better) deals for the T2, T100 or T200? If its shops... I would appreciate the address to the shops if possible. Skip Sony Gallery for sure...
Need to get hold of one camera soon for an upcoming trip... all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all!

try the fuji f50fd :)

thanks indeed... but sadly, I am fan (or sucker) for Sony products.
next down the line, I might consider Canon Ixus which I had owned before.
But currently, I'll still put my money on Sony first, anytime, if I could.

Well out of the 3, T2 has a flat screen cover, so does not open easily with single hand, I will give it a pass. T200 /T70 are equals except for body size. The main question is whether touch screen will favour in your fishing trip, that help u decide.
The face detection is optional since you will be getting lots of backlit situation on boat.

Flash power are poor across all but shooting during a haul at night may be a challenge.

actually I also dun really fancy the T2... maybe except for the black color, the rest of the colors dun appeal much to an 'old man' like me. hahaa...

I see you mentioned T70.
How about the T100? I find the T100 & T200 pretty similar though.

The face detection feature is actually quite useful to me during night fishing... as not all trips are on board a boat.
It helps me "locate" the angler's face and from there I can centralised the subject into the frame for photo taking. Instead of using a torchlight to shine on the person's face... kind of "primitive"... haha...
h/w, the "smile detection" is utterly useless , at least for me.
imagine with the switch on, how many unnecessory shots will be taken each and everytime someone smiles or laughs even before you angled the camera for the shot.

By the way... any inputs on the prices of the following :

T100?
T2?
T200?

lowest, best prices that is... obviously.
And at which shops/ retailers & their address (if possible)?

Thanks all so far for your valuable inputs, advice and help!

OK. If you're worried about the durability of the touch screen but the camera is what you want, go get from Harvey Norman or Best Denki and get their extended warranty for a piece of mind. Otherwise, try MS Color at AMK Central. There is a dedicated Sony shop there. You can visit their webpage at www.mscolor.com.sg for the exact address & contact details. Look for Florence.

If you don't need the extra 2x zoom, then T70 will be cheaper, smaller. Else every specs are the same against T200 (except color). The choice of T100 is a matter of touch screen.
IMO not much improvement on the Bronz sensor processing seen.

Something worth noting (I am not sure about T100) is T200/T70 don't do post process on LCD, so gives u a realistic image quality during LCD preview. The older T9 makes the picture looks sharp but actual may be blur.

A prosumer might help in your case. The Sony H7 or H9 with 12x zoom and you can adjust the flash output from -2 to +2.

M S Color 64576380 AMK Ave 8 01-3501C next to S11 hawker centre and they Sony gallery just set up 2 weeks back.

thanks felixcat8888, glador & the rest...

just went to sony gallery to meddle with the T200 & T2 during lunch break...
then adjourn to Sim Lim Sq to check out the prices.

one shop assistant told me to be wary of Sony touch screen.
he noted that the first batch of touch screen from Sony, the T50 (if I didnt get it wrong), was a flop & it was either recalled or discontinued after just 3 months of its launch.
Lots of complaint was toward the "faulty" or "insensitive" LCD screen buttons.
Reason why I had it " " is because he said to be fair, one should always use the stylus instead of mere thumb/ finger to operate on the touch screen as the pressure between the 2 is world of difference. having used the finger on the touch screen creates a different (& obviously more) pressure than the stylus, so in the long run, the touch screen becomes "insensitive" toward the stylus, hence a "faulty" LCD screen.

Hopefully the newer batch of T2 & T200 don;t have such "problems" under proper handling, of course.
Or is there anyone who owns the T2 or T200 who encounters the above problems?

felixcat8888, galdor, will check out MS color over the weekend... thanks for the address / contact, will go look for Florence. :)

Actually after meddling with the T2 & T200, I think T100 is really something in between for my preference, too bad its discontinued. Only found one shop @ Sim Lim that still has stock for it (silver color), but at S$450.
If only its cheaper... coz the cheapest so far I'd found for the T2 was S$520 and the T200 was S$535. For less than a hundred difference from S$450, to get something 'obsolete' don't seem to tally at all. hahaa...
Unless anyone knows which shop still has the T100 at a more "reasonable" price, prefer the black color one. :)

if not, my choice now lies between the T200 & T2.
next dilemma, specs & features aside... to get the internal 4GB with an extra battery or to get the T200 with a 2GB memory stick. well of course, 2.7" VS 3.5" LCD....sigh.... headache!

Thanks!

cool! :)

just call up MS color to check... but spoke to a guy...so can't be Florence. :)

anyway... their best price for the T200 is not very competitive :( with those shops I asked at Sim Lim, though their T2's is rather competitve. And he told me its already the Best-est price. (not too sure if its appropriate to mention shop & their prices so I'll just skip the 'sensitive' topic here) :embrass:

Or a personal visit to the MS Color & look for Florence will have a different outcome on the price tags?
I've never been there even once, so if there is a need for a visit, do let me know?
If not, then I'll shall not take the extra time n effort to go over as AMK is not too near where I stay. hehe...

Thanks!

:nono: get cameras from Sin Lim except for Alan Photo & Orient Photo. They will usually quote you very low prices as compared to the market and when you are prepared to get it they will display their stunts.

Get an e-quote from MS or CP first.

They others dun give good pricing except for Florence and Mr Loh. Go down and you will not regret it. I always get my stuff from there ever since I started with 35mm SLRs and they were then in Mandai . . .

fleixcat8888,
ok... roger that... shall make a trip down to tomato land and look for Florence.
Hopefully, its a worthwhile trip...hehee.

galdor...
Most sim lim shops in your opinion are not "truthful" about prices is it?
Is that all?
If thats the case, I can just say NO & put my money else where.
What worries me more is that... the reason why they are able to be so "price competitve", could it be due to 'lower QC' products or 'faulty' goods? If not, still not too bad.

Didnt go into Alan or Orient Photo when I was at Sim Lim yesterday... maybe I can make another trip down to check out their prices. Too many shops there already...blur...
However, was at this particular shop called Dynasty & the salesperson who attended to me was very patient and preofessional. Showed me other brands & models and compared with Sony... tried out several modelas as well. Doesn;t give you the feeling that he's eager to close the deal fast and just talk money.
The rest of the shops is just a Q&A session about product availability & prices.

since so many people in here have good experience with MS Color & Florence, I think its worth making a trip down to check things out myself. Hopefully, I could get a camera from them.

Cheers!

When I shop at Sim Lim, I only go to Orient Photo. The rest of the shops I'll just walk pass them and stay far away. Do a search here and you will be able to find some stunts that they pull. Anyway I don't think Orient Photo carries PnS cameras at the moment.

Just give a call to Florence and get a quote before going down. Remember to ask for the price which is inclusive of GST.

ok thanks... shall do a search on "sim lim salesman stunts" or " sim lim salesman cho stunts" to better prepare myself against them should I be patronising any of them :)

will give Florence a call as well... this time round if a guy picks up the call... guess I'll have to ask him to pass the phone over to florence haha...

should be getting the camera by this weekend. mostly the T200, though not confirmed.
afterwhich, still need the help of all the pro-s here on camera accesorries maybe. ie. sports pack etc.
Like I heard other than Manufacturer itself, there are some other "OEM" / "compatible" sports pack for most major cameras brands. But all this is till I settled on a camera first then say...

Thanks!
