Hi everyone I have looking around for a digital camera but I am not sure what are the good ones ard. I intend to use the camera for normal photo taking and the occasional concert watching. I was taking for the olympus 820 but I heard my fren told me olympus camera are quite high power consuming camera. Any one knows anything abt it?

Maybe you want to tell us what is your budget, what do you want to shoot and do you want a PnS or a prosumer or a dslr.

I was thinking abt less then $600 budget. And I had olympus u820 in mind but earlier post by felix8888 told me that PNS can't watch concert with it. And I don't wanna a DSLR reason being my wife will be using too plus I had a old model canon camera (non DSLR) model is EOS3 something or 4something. So after hearing what felix8888 says, I thought of getting canon 860IS but I am afraid that the battery life might be pretty short. So what you think?

Bro,

Are you sure you can take pics in the concert hall? If yes, must take without flash. I just got the Olympus SP-560UZ and its indoor mode is great and sharp. Go to the Olympus thread and look for pst called SP-560Z. I posted some pics there for indoor shots.

I have not used the canon 860IS before so I'm not sure about it's battery life. Maybe you want to consider getting a Fuji S6500, 9500 or 8000 or a Sony H7/H9. You can find the specs and reviews on www.dpreview.com But the Sony ones may be out of your budget.

I am so sorry for confusing you guys. I don't mean taking pictures in the concert hall but use the digital camera zoom features to watch the concert its LCD screen. But then that would mean getting a good camera with good zoom right? or am I wrong??

Yes, that is right. The 18x zoom models are:
Fuji S8000FD (27-486mmm)
Olympus SP-560UZ (27-486mmm)
Olympus SP-550UZ (previous model zoom range 28-504mm)
Panasonic Z18 (28-504mmm)

The Fuji and the Oly are essentially using the same sensor: 1/2.35
The Pana uses a 1/2.5 sensor

The 12x zoom models are: (36-420mm)
Canon S5IS
Panasonic Z8
Panasonic Z50
Kodak Z712
Kodak Z812

Are the cameras that u mentioned big and bulky?

Bulky or not will depend on individual. Some of the cameras which are find are worth to get are here. If you want the compactness, you may lose out in terms of zoom range. Anyway, you may want to take a look.

The Sony H3 might be a good idea... It's small, but has a 10x zoom range.

Watch concert via digital camera LCD ? Sound weird.

Maybe a binocular is better choice.

There is a Panasonic wif long zoom but in compact size. Model is TZ2 and TZ3. But u got to see the review of this model, i'm not very sure gd anot.

Pardon me for asking, but why do you wanna watch a concert on an LCD screen? I'll tell you that watching on an LCD and watching with your eyes on the actual performance will defitely be different. :)

I got no money buy near near seat only enough to buy moderate distance seat. So no choice loh. That's y I was thinking of using digital camera see concert. But after thinking for so long (plus advice from some people here) I think just forget abt the concert watching part. Now I just need a good PNS camera for normal shooting.

1. What is your estimate budget ?
2. What is your preferred Camera brand ? Canon, Nikon, Olympus, etc ...
3. What kind of photography do you like ? Candid, scenery, people shots, etc ....
4. What is the objective of photography ? Print, web or slides shows ?

1. Budget is ard less then 600.
2. Was looking at Canon and Nikon
3. Mostly on scenery follow by candid and lastly people
4. Web follow by slides shows.

Hence I was deciding on canon 860IS and Nikon S510. What do you think about this 2 model? good enough?

For your "view concert on LCD" requirement? No.
