Its true that in Singapore, one cannot fall sick. My mom was admitted yesterday and I have to pay SGD3870 upfront. For 2 days she was just lying in her bed while the doctor/nurse take their own sweet time to try to delay treatment and find out what's wrong with her. Every day there cost $200++ just for room. Anyone can advise what I can do have my mom diagnosed ASAP? Sad to see my mom there.

Can you tell us what class ward your mum is staying in?

that's weird, i don't recall my grandmother's hospital bill being that much

...if they are medically trained, and you are not.. trust in their medical training, please.. i would rather get a good diagnosis than a misdiagnosis
it is never easy to see a loved one in hospital.. best wishes.

I do hope you know what's the consequences of a misdiagnosed patient or wrong drugs prescribed due to wrong diagnosis. The feeling of being put in queue is unnerving and unsettling, but in times like these, it would be best to put one's faith in the hands of the good doctor and nurses unless you are a doctor yourself who knows the true nature of the work.

You can urge the doctor for a daily update or alternatively, upgrade to a higher class ward OR go straight to a private hospital.

But its strange that you have to pay cash upfront. A relative was warded earlier this year and it was all deducted from Medisave, don't have to fork out a single cent.

All the best.

Peace.

Did you contribute to the expenses ? Else you won't know the real amount.

Stop being so skeptical all the time.

JSBN: It is true you need to pay an amount upfront b4 you are admited.

I hope ur mother are alright....

Yap, upfront money is important. But if your mum had bought insurance, they sure cover well. I had urge my parents to take up insurance policy. Its a real burden if someone fall sick and you are the only child.

Hope all goes well for your mummy. Don't worry too much. :)

u want fast, bring her to private hospital. you'll get better attention there and there are fewer junior docs around. of course, u pay a lot more.

best wishes

Hope that your mum has an early recovery....

it's an irony that in our whole healthy life we work so hard for money and in the end we use the hard earned monies to pay for our health!.......
our "caring" gov realised this long ago and as such we have the medisave scheme ...... and overnight, it's no more their problem!

Yeap, ironic isn't it?

The alternative is to not work so hard... ;p

sad to hear that. sg medical fee is very expansive.

A friend of mine went for a minor op and stay for 5 days. Her cost was >14k.

I myself have stay in class C, no surgery , only lab test for < 1/2 day (i discharge myself as i am very unsatisfied with the doctors). The cost >$800 after subsidize. Simple tests, cost so much. I cannot imagine those low income folks who fall sick and stay in hospital. I am sure their pinch will be much heavier.

Few of my frens are still recovering from (debts of) their medical cost that is incur during their stay in public hospital.

So it is true "Die in singapore is ok, but terminal long term illness is singapore can make your family much poorer"

You are filial. Hope your mum recover fast. Money can earn back later.

Yes, it is likely our bulk of savings may go to medical. In fact, it may not even be enough for many pple.

As I am a spa Diet and nutrient consultant, I still feel that some prevention when you are still young.

I agree to that we work too hard to earn our money and later in life spending it to buy back to the health we lose during our hardship working.

What to do? When we are enjoying, food became what we live for. But we know that eating junk makes us sick but we still eat to live....I think thats the irony in life.

You are a filial son. Check if you mum has healthshield, it will cover the room and board charges totally or partially. :)

Its B1 ward. Stated was $235.40 per day normal. WEF 1st July.

$$ is secondary but just dont like the service there. There is totally no connection between the staffs. Most of them attachment Students doing the job but are they competence????

Hopefully they can tell me what's wrong by today. This morning only then they start their diagnostic. Wanted to load the photo of the bill but CS gallery down.

do they even have a diagnosis let alone prognosis yet?

my mom is non-resident and she is using my medisave but on top of that, I still need to come out cash. If I dont hv medisave, have to come up with $6120 upfront.

Thanks for all concerned. I'm heading to the hospital now to take over from my sis.
