K10D price drop ??

with the impeding announcement to be made for the new camera release, i have hold back buying a pentax camera until then, but i see some crazy prices for K10D, its really driving me nuts. To buy now or buy later?? Why is Singapore prices not matching them ?? i would have get 1 now without any hesitation if it does.

Does this means the Pentax is able to have a early delivery for the new camera bodies come next year ??

The price is pretty accurate. With the rebate the K10D body currently works out to about SGD750 only.

I can confirm this as I have an American client who is a working pro. He bought one this Thanksgiving from his local photo store for USD600 cash (before rebate). The US pricing is indeed very attractive for the Christmas shopping season, something that I dare say will never happen here. Even the HK's pricing is better than Singapore. Pentax USA might be trying to push inventory to meet year end targets and in anticipation of the soon to be announced new models, which are most probably in production phase already.

K100D super is even more cheaper...~S$580 with kit lens :bigeyes:...cheaper than the canon PnS i bought in june , anyway no point dwell on it, since i decided not to buy and wait for the new release...really hope i made the right choice...already spend my main buck getting a couple of LE lens

Still no pentax body till next yr. Hope Pentax is able to have a early release of their new cam...

B&H can get USD399 after rebate exclude shipping...some US local dealer probably might be cheaper...if u have someone in US to get it for u that is...

If not wrong the rebate will take abt 8-10 wks for them to process.
But the rebate is only 4 those in US, so if u have some1 staying in US.
It will b a v attractive offer... Even if u dun n have it shipped to SG, u still will save some $$$ as compared to getting it in SG.

As for the new camera release, who knows when it will b out man...

Come on, think about this: your K10D is still selling for the same price now as it was launched here last year, which means it retains its value quite nicely . The launch price for K10D here in SG was quite low actually, one of the lowest on the market before last Christmas, lower even than the US price

As to the price elsewhere, even you have someone helping you with the purchase, the warranty thing might an issue.

But I do agree the local price for K10D should drop abit, at least match the price selling in Asian countries like China/HK. I know the price for K10D in China has dropped from its launch price of 8000RMB to 5700RMB in less than 10 months ...

it's called hurdle pricing.. those who can wait will get the lower price.. those who can't wait will get a higher price.. this way the companies get the most out of the deal.. which is fair i guess, since you make the choice in the first place.

just like harry potter books and stuff like playstations.. when first release, price higher.. wait a while will drop.. if you think about it hardcover books do not cost that much more to produce compared to paperbacks.. yet the difference in pricing is significant

I feel sometimes its not necessary 2 wait too long...
Anyway DSLR which ever brand or model u got will last u quite some time...
So long as u r happy wif it n love using it thats gd enough...
If u wait 4 price to drop, then newer model comes out, then most likely u get the newer model which will depend cost u more...

Actually NOW is probably the best time to buy a Pentax K10D then ever before. Of course if you can wait about 2 months, you can probably buy the latest models. BUT don't expect the new cameras to come cheap as you will be paying a premium to be an early adopter.

In addition to paying more, there is also the risk of teething problems for initial production batches (e.g. Canon's 1DMkIII & Nikon's D200 come to mind). As for me, I've not decided until I know the pricing of the new models. But the K10D's pricing is really tempting...
