A P&S camera

I'm looking for a P&S camera for a friend. budget is $350.

Any suggestions?

I was thinking a casio exilim or maybe a panasonic. Any other brands that i should consider?

Hmm.. other than the price, what other features would you like to have? brand new? used machine? MP etc?

I have an old Canon IXUS 50. If you don't mind. HAHA

hmmm. i have an ixus 50 too! haha. basically, she's going to be using it to shoot people and etc.

MP wise, maybe a 7? and it should be able to shoot in low lighting conditions.

does anyone know if the exilim series is good? my sis has one and it takes really good pictures of my niece. so yah. and she got it quite reasonable too.

The Exilim S series are good.They are capable of taking wonderful shots.:thumbsup:

Hmm it think this model is obselete oreadi. No more in production. But it is a very good camera! I've got one too!

For a lady user, try the Sony PnS. They will love the compact & stylish design. It's a better choice than the Casio IMHO. IIRC, the Sony DSC-W55 is only going for $349 brand new at Challenger. If your friend can fork out a bit more, the T100 is only $399. You may want to get an e-quote from the recommended shops like MS Color, CP and others.

In the PnS world, the specs are as good as the competition. So not so sure where your statement comes from.

Based on...? I've seen really horrible image quality from Fuji, Canon, Nikon, Casio, Panasonic...

All PnS cameras have limitations, and there are cases where the Sonys are better, there are cases where the others are better.

Before you make a blanket statement like that, please do your research.

Let's take a look at the Sony W80 and the Canon Ixus 850, both in the same category in terms of price and features:

You seen your own share of lousy pictures. I seen my own share lousy pictures. enough said.

ok lets get back to track.. with the budget, try consider canon powershot A570 IS..

take a look at the fujifilm A820.

i am currently using.

$230 only.

the quality at the wide end is breath taking. the tele end is so-so though (quite bad in fact). but i almost never use the tele end.

I would still go for the Sony due to the sleek & stylish design and for that price you can get a Carl Zeiss lens.

hmmm. i was looking at the panasonic lumix DMC-FX12. it's going for 299 now (in today's papers)

anyone has any objections or suggestions? ha.

i don't really like the new sony cams. my aunty has one, and under low lighting conditions, the pictures come out quite bad. outdoors is a separate matter, the pics are lovely. so yah. i don't think my friend will want to shoot outdoors lah. typical use of a pns. take pics of people (and generally indoors).

actually... most P&S will not perform very well under low lighting... so far i only heard Fujj 8000 series having higher ISO and performing better... the rest ... oh well... smaller sensor = more noise...

If you are really into indoor, get one P&S with a hotshoe and an external flash, most build in flash will give u super harsh pictures (extra cost). If you're into outdoors... get a tripod... it helps alot :sweatsm:
