..there is such a huge interest in taking pictures of models over which you have no control in terms of location, posing, lighting, styling etc? Case in point is the recent S.I.N event.

Now, I'm not having a go at anybody or putting anyone down, I just want to understand what the big deal is and why SO many get SO excited about it - just at look at the number of new threads and comments in each.

for the amount of $$, got so many models to pose for them to shoot, why not??

this is all about quantity, not quality, same like all the photos being posted.

answer is simple : this country is a boring place with nothing much to play, small place packed with a huge growing population.. so a sudden little event like that will usually trigger a surge in attention of hobbyists. Get used to it.

But that's just it, the models (in many cases) are not posing specifically for a single photographer, the lighting is often not flattering - personally under such circumstances I wouldn't bother.

I have to disagree with you. I am not a local, but I see endless possibilities for photographic subjects. I can understand the interest in such events, but my question specifically relates the taking of pictures of models at these events.

A photographer should be able to adapt his skills to shoot in all kind of environment right? :bsmilie:

Just treat this type of shoot like street photography loh.

I go there not especially for the cars or gal but just a slight % do so because we're all warm blooded males. For me it's mostly for the challenge because I heard you can't get a decent sharp pics with that lighting. Well I managed to get the settings/flash whatever right and my pics turns out sharp. There.. moreso there's nothing else going on in Singapore. Getting them at the right moment and angle is a challenge too. It's fun, it's intrinsic satisfaction when a pic turns out nice. I do it mainly because the settings, etc are different from studio, streetshoots, modelshoots, etc. I'd like to master more categories by practicing long and hard. Also my model backed out the last min, where else I'm supposed to go?
Zoo? Yawnnnn been last Sat was bored out of my mind, chinatown? zzZZZ same old same old street photography walked the whole sg many times over.
I don't see anything wrong with that. And the racequeen image sells too look at the crowds compared to say, if its only car alone! Good $$ and publics interest. Why not?

With a similar amount of non-control over lighting, I still shoot live concerts nonetheless (you can see me disrupting the flood of SIN threads in Ready Lights Action :bsmilie: :bsmilie:), because I enjoy the event. The music and the raw energy put out by some bands. And I try to place myself in a position to maximise the use of the stage lightings. Key words, I enjoy watching/listening to live band performance.

cyber_monkey: key words for the people you are describing, they like looking at girls. :bsmilie: Before I get flamed, do note, I have nothing against such activities. I just don't enjoy such events that's all :) At least not like how I enjoy myself at live shows.

Everyone has their own taste. cyber_monkey, we'd just stick to our own. haha.

Well, everyone needs to get suckered into this kind of events at least once. Then you learn what not to do :bsmilie:

Because men are attracted to women. Simple enough?

It's the Art of Seeing Beauty.

It's too Chim to explain to an outsider.

Either you have it or you don't.

Obviously many have it. :bsmilie: :sweatsm:
