I'm interest in Nikon D80 + 18-135mm kit lens. So, I went on for some serious survey for the best deal in town.
It started in a good situation, after some shop. I found a shop who able to offer me a good price (S$1550) with GST and 2GB SD memory card + UV filter and LCD protector. It was a great deal indeed. As a consumer, I do need to know more about the warranty and follow on services provide by the shop and the item.
Seen like I have been asking too much or just that I dun seen like a sincere buyer (that what the shop assistant refer me as). He told me that, if I buy now, he will offer me a S$1500 for everything. This sound even better, but after discuss with my GF(max 30sec) and ask for a name card, so that we are able to return to the shop next week to purchase it. He told me that if I am able to come back to his shop and buy this item, he will offer me S$1300 for everything I asked for.
It sound too good to be real, as what we observe.
Tell me, what is happening?? :dunno:

wa...

1300 for d80 kit and gst with 2gb card and filter ??

:bsmilie: :bsmilie:

Yes, that what he told me. It aren’t gonna be real, as he just being impolite to me. Cause I ask too much or I just have a ugly face but I think the main reason is that I wanted to consider it and come back on next week.
By the way, can you guys let me know which is a blacklist shops. So that I would not deal with this kind of shop. Thank.

I think it would be better if you can get a quote from the usual friendly shops like MS Color, Cathay Photo, Alan Photo, TK Foto or John 3:16.

First, you have to confirm our suspicion whether is it from Sim Lim Square.

is it ok to mention name??
as i wan other to be careful to shop with them..

If the things happened and is factual, you can name the place.

If you want to protect yourself by not naming the shop, then go and get the quotation from the usual delers as mentioned by others. Else, how to help you and help others? :dunno:

u r right. i just send some quatation to other dealer/shop.

Gee if this guy is trying to call my bluff that I am not really buying but just asking question and he comes out with some silly price like that? I would bang my cash on the table and asked him to wrap up one for me on the spot and take it. Is that a good deal or wat??? heheheheh

Agree. I would rather spend my money elsewhere. Why give them the business just to gain that 'song' feeling. I would just walk away having the last smile.

Well...he talk the big talk wat..so play him back too lah..said to him "you kidding lah uncle". The body, the battery, the len, the local warranty..etc. All this for $1,300. Uncle you kidding lah. If he said yes and show you a set...then you whack out the money and get it!. heheh. I say game on man.. heh No harm trying wat. If you are already in fact buying one and have budget for it... I say go for it and try. At the very worst he backs down and you walk out.

You know how I know this? I did this before. There was this person working at a audio shop who just felt I was never going to buy and was only asking for fun and just want to try out the demo piece of audio hardware at the shop tiem and again. He saw me walk so many times in and out of the shop. ( I have to abmit I always do that when I shop, I go from shop to shop not just looking for good price but also comparing units and thinking hard to buy or not so sometime I end up in the same shop a few times in the same day)

He told me "tell you wat lah....just for you. I sweeten the deal. If you buy this within the next 5 minutes in my shop, I will offer you this player for $600+ over the retail price of $900. I went up to the stack of boxed DVD players sets, point at one of them and say you referring to this one and he said yes. Ask him including local warranty and all that? He said yes. I said you are kidding. He said no joke and motion to one of his colleague to 'witness'. You don't want right? Last chance man. I took one of the box containing the DVD player towards him, took out money and put it in his hand. I can't remember if he was shock or a damn good poker player but he kept to his word. I walked out paying $600+ for a $900+ DVD player. Maybe he was the boss or they really markup high in that shop or afraid I will make a scene over his claim. I couldn't care less...all I know is I save me a few hundred bucks that one time.

They thick skin you ...you thick skin back. heheheh

Sim Lim Square somemore...circa 1995....quite a notorious time too. But then again it was like a second home to me 3 times a week. Maybe that helped?

Acutally come to think of it...I got a sweet deal for my S70 Sony Semipro PnS 3.2mega camera too.. The shop just next to Alan Photo. I was walking about that place for a few days till I think most of the shop staff have approached me more then a few times heheeh.. always looking at the same two camera I narrow it down to which was the Nikon or the Sony In the end this shop mumble a price that was like almost 200 buck cheaper then any shops around there including those in the nearby vicinity. He was not too keen to sell me too after telling me the price..I had to wait about for a while as alot of customer came to the shop. In the end I say, give me one...and yup..I got the camera at the price he offered, paid cash and everything was inside it. Yes of course I had my share of being screwed too but funny thing..never at Sim Lim Sq.

Thick skin + Dress Down + Don't over push them. I sometime tell them I have not decided yet and say they should serve the other person for now as you don't want to waste their time on you yet. You will ask them when you have decided something. You would be surprise that can rub them the right way. They human mah...they also want to earn a living especially if sale man on commission. You can relate to them, they can sometime pity you and you get sometime better advice or better deals.
