shanghai trip..advice needed

i suppose you would've already done some research on shanghai. basically, shanghai is split into two - Pudong (which is the modern part) and Puxi (which is the old Shanghai, but got lotsa character) - by the Huangpu river.
Some places that i can think of :
Puxi
1. The Bund.
2. Nanjing Dong Lu - Nanjing West Road (its a pedestrian road with lotsa neon lights at night)
3. Temples - Jing an si, Long hua si
4. Huaihai Road (the kinda equivalent of Orchard Road)
5. People's square (Renmin guang chang) - for what else ? people photography :bsmilie:
6. Xintiandi - nice pubs and expensive restaurants.
Pudong
1. Pearl TV Tower
2. Jinmao (Hyatt hotel)
3. Shanghai science and technology museum. There is a fake goods market underneath the Shanghai science and technology museum MRT station (closes at 8pm sharp)
4. Lujiazui green (its a beautiful park behind the Pearl TV Tower) - nice place to soak the warm sun in the winters.
Food
there are plenty of restaurants. you will be spoilt for choice.
I like Pudong for its nice and clean buildings and wide roads and Puxi for its character.
December will be cold. Get plenty of winter wear.

well..as you said..have done a little bit of research on shanghai..just want to have a better idea..the same few places get mentioned all the time :bsmilie:
anyway just wondering if it's a good idea to maybe squeeze in a day tour to hangzhou or suzhou??they are pretty nearby right??
i am probably going to stay in puxi..somewhere in Nanjing Road which my friend have told me is in a very good location..food wise and shopping wise :bsmilie:

one day in suzhou (30 mins fast train from 上海 to 苏州
actually is more than enough unless u going to all the 园岭 and listen to all the explanation by the guide. nanjing road is a long road. if u are staying near 南京东路, then u are very near to the 南京步行街 and a few streets down will be the 外滩 aka the Bund.
if u are interested in IT stuffs, then go 徐家汇 but be very aware of what u are buying and do research on the pricing as well as how to check the authenticity of the product.

if you only have 4 days, then you might as well stay put in shanghai. hangzhou and suzhou are sold as day trips, but IMHO the best time to be in Hangzhou is early morning and late evening/night. West Lake is a tourist trap, the only time you will get some peace is when there are no tourists. and that would possibly be at 4 or 5 in the morning. so, unless you stay overnight in hangzhou, you won't really enjoy the west lake.
i was thoroughly unimpressed by the gardens in suzhou, but then some people love them.

guess info should be sufficient for my trip..just want to take a break from mudane work at the office..haha..which shouldn't be too difficult to achieve

If you fancy a drink with a nice view, please go to "No 3 on the Bund". In winter, the balcony would be quite empty for you to setup your tripod and take night shots of the Shanghai skyline.
I wish I could be in Shanghai right now :bsmilie:
PS : DVD 5 for RMB 5 and DVD 9 for RMB 9. Please don't overpay :bsmilie:
I will suggest you to take a fast train to HangZhou if you wan to shoot a good picture.
HangZhou is very nice for the scenery.
If you just want to stay in ShangHai, you have no chance to shoot any scenery, except the modern and the comtemporary building.
Remember! DO NOT BUY ANYTHING there. Even if you want to buy something, and you can stop your eagerness, ask your china friend ask for discount, normally the discount range can be from 30% - 90%.
If you like Night life, I will recommend you to go to 海阔天空 pub in pudong. Better than ZOUK. Provided you like chinese songs.
I were very disappointed that I get no chance enjoy 'old' shanghai pub, there is one in Peace Hotel (he ping fan dian) the name of the pub is 'ye shanghai', close at 10pm daily.
If you like to eat duck, "chian zi de" beijing duck is a die die must try, located in huai hai zhong lu.
One thing I admire about ShangHai is their TAXI. Although is not the kind of very clean one. But....Service,...Cheap fare,....Safety,......I can say better than Singapore
