not sure what's the normal range for IT job, but on the average for anyone fresh on the job, the pay is around 200 000 yen (before tax) which is around 2500 SGD. plus you need to work harder than a slave usually.

what u mean by working harder than a slave?
is it a lot of OT or just normal working hour but work more?

how come the salary just the same as singapore?
i thought it's more expensive to live over there?

i'll say it's a cultural thing, too complicated to explain. experience it to know it :)

Japanese working culture #101: You come earlier than the boss, you leave later than the boss AND your most senior co-worker.

As for the salary... No comments but the taxes they have to pay are alot more than what you have to pay in Singapore and their 'apartment' is like your typical 1-room flat in Singapore. Singapore's 4-room HDB flat is way larger than their apartments most of the time (landed property not withstanding).

Its a great place to visit, to study but to work..... Hmm....

sound scary leh
i got interviewed by one japan company
well, what the company is doing is what i really interested in (of course i haven't try).
It's a mix of IT and media.
What i'm doing now is pure IT which is quite boring.
Well, i expect the pay would be reduced a bit and the expense should be increase but the job sound interesting to me.
And after training they'll base me in VN (i'm from VN) and said that they'll also adjust the pay to suit the VN market. Which i expect to be even lesser pay.
well, is it worth it to work for the job (assuming u like) with less pay?
:-s

$2500 x 13 months(including AWS) = $32500 a year

oh man... i recently had the opportunity to work in japan with their ppl, and as wat most mentioned:

If u are a visitor to their country and working with them, they are very very great host. In terms of hospitality, they provided me with a very pleasant experience.

However, wat i observe among the japanese workers: Seniority, heirarchy, or rank watever u call it, is very very important in their society. And its true that if u are a low ranked staff, its almost "expected" that u are to arrive earlier, work longer, and leave later than ur boss/seniors.

and in a sense, they demand perfection in the things u do, so if u are one that always make mistakes here and there, their culture might not suit u at all. However, it was a pleasure for me to work with them, because the data they provided us are the least error-free compared to the other countries.

And another thing is, are u a very punctual person? i.e. if they say meeting is 9:00am, it means 9:00am, and they expect the projectors, slides, aircon, refreshments etc. all to be ready by 9:00am when the meeting starts.

I nearly kena sabotaged by my colleague when i worked there, we are supposed to start the meeting at 9:00am, then he still dilly dally, saying "aiya, around 9am can already la", of course in the end, when we went to the meeting, they give kinda black faces, although we started at abt 9:05am. --> So, wats ur habit in singapore?

Another thing: are u the sort of a porblematic person, with always a lot of things to demand and ask for? In japan, u are expected to do and take watever the elders throw u.. in singapore well, we still can work our way around.

I heard Japan corp gives 3 months bonus normally?

Negotiate of whole package carefully, e.g. accommodation allowance, medical coverage, tax subsidy, etc. These 3 can eat lots of your basic salary.

what about their weddings? do they start on time too? i really hate wedding here... can start 1 or 2 hours later than what was mentioned in the card.

for bigger companies terms are usually more ''stable'' ... for medium/small firms, bonus is really variable ... if any ...

don't know about the weddings here, but their ceremonies are so strict, i believe they do everything on time ... that aside, the ''ang pow'' alone you need to give to attend is

a typical calculation for a single person living alone in tokyo starting on a totally new job ...

salary after tax = approx. 170 000 yen
rent = 50 000 yen (not so convenient location)
transport (train+walk) = 600 yen daily = 18 000 yen
food (eat cheaply) = 2000 yen daily = 60 000 yen
social events (social drinking, wedding etc.) = 20 000 yen

leftover = 22 000 yen (provided the person don't fall sick etc. ... btw medicine is cheap in japan, but to get the doctor to write an official MC can cost anywhere from 3000 yen to 9000 yen )

but usually if the person shows good performance for the first 4-6 months, he/she will get pay/position rise

if you've been headhunted, your salary and benefits will definitely be much better than entering the company out of nowhere. you can stretch terms and conditions even, if they are desperate enough to get you on board

erm..... 2000 yen daily for food in japan seems to be the killer leh..... i think its impossible for me to do it...

eg. those scrambled egg chicken bowl almost always 1000 yen already, then the smaller other bowls of food are around 800-900 at least le... then if we buy the drinks from vending machine = about 150-200yen a bottle/can, then if buy 2-3 bottles/can for a day = almost 500yen already..

somehow, i think i am too used to living in singapore already... i cant imagine myself staying for months in japan..

on a sidenote: the girls in tokyo are :thumbsup:

2000 yen a day for food is not impossible you know, even if eating out. you can get a decent meal for 500 yen at those bento chains, leaving you 500 yen to get at most 5 drinks if you manage to hunt down all the 100 yen vending machine near you

girls in tokyo? wait till you see them without the makeup ...

sound expensive uhm
maybe i'll wait till next week see how
