Hi all,

Here is my situation. When I mount a 24-135 (f3.5-f5.6) Tamron lens and look through the viewfinder at the clear sky, there seemed to be a "misty spots" uniformly distributed throught the viewfinder. It is like looking through a super thin black cloth.

When another lens 17-50 (f2.8) is mounted, the "misty spots" cannot be seen throught the viewfinder.

I brought the lens down to the Camera Workshop and they told me that it is caused by the lens coating and can be seen when the apperture is small enough. They showed me a couple of lens (including another set of 24-135) and sure enough, the "misty spots" can be seen.

My purpose of posting this thread is to ask members here if there is any truth in the diagnosis. It is important because I'm putting this lens up for sale and I would not want to sell it if I know there is something wrong with it.

Thanks in advance.

hmm i've never encountered somthing like that before
and it occurs only with certain lenses?

Today is the first time I was shown the "misty spots" by a potential buyer . I guess there was no reason prior to today for me to study the viewfinder when pointing at a clear sky.

The "mist" was really uniformed which makes me think its not a "flaw" introduced from external factors.

The people at the Camera Workshop allowed me to look through several lens (different brands and models) using the viewfinder, aiming at the ceiling lights, sure enough, the "mist" were there.

I'm just wondering if there is a technical term for this, so I can assure any potential buyers of my lens.

might just be your viewfinder or mirror...

Nope. It was tried on 3 cameras, and different combinations of lenses. That was why I figured it was a common phenomenon and hope someone can shed some light on it (no pun intended).:D
