I want to find out more about the Olympus camera.

However, most of the posts have been diverted to the four third section and the Olympus section is just a skeleton section.

My question is, most of the post in the four third section is about Olympus camera. Why is there a need to divert it to the four third section and leave the Olympus section bare ?

I think if you want to find out more of olympus DSLR, then, go the 4/3 sub forum... However, if you wanna find out stuff about Olympus PNS camers, then go to the olympus sub forum. I think the idea here is to lump the 4/3 stuff in 1 forum so that users can share experience as there are also panasonic users here. Also not forgetting there are third party lenses...

Tunghk,

Thanks for your explanation.

The main branding here is Olympus but I find that the brand Olympus has been relegated in place of the 4/3.

4four 3rd formerly known as Olympus ?

dpreview.com has a pretty active Olympus discussion forum.

As tunghk had mentioned, the intention of the FourThirds forum is to discuss the system as a whole. We try to be inclusive. Granted it is still Olympus who is the main protagonist, but all that may change in the near future once Leica finds its feet in the digital age and Panasonic finally deciding to go full swing into the imaging industry.

Since Olympus, Panasonic, and Leica all have four-thirds system cameras, it makes a lot of sense to combine the knowledge in the four-thirds forum rather than three separate forums since a lot of the issues will likely be common.

I don't find that Olympus is being put aside, but with three brands sharing things, it does have a different feeling.

What i noticed was:

1) Darren, our Admin, posted the E3 announcement in the Oly subforum (hinting some kind of pref?)

2) 4/3 leica news in Others subforum

Confusion? Go figure...

ya lor :)

I was quite surprised that the E3 announcement was in the oly subforum when most the oly DSLRs users are in the 4/3rds forum..

Alamak, is it the base assumption that the Admin is all-knowing?

I was surprised that the announcement on the front page was so big. I don't remember that for the other two recent announcements.

Of course, the person who went to Japan about the E-3 was apparently not an Olympus user at all.

Maybe, all camera users are secretly wishing that they could use Olympus products. :bsmilie:

He was invited for the official launch as a representative of ClubSnap.

It underlines the impact ClubSnap has on the Singapore photography community.

Interestingly u didn't help shift the thread to its appropriate sub forum? If u can't shift admin's thread then at least notify Darren about how Oly, Fourthirds & Others are run so he can do it & our TS wud not need to post such a questn.

I've no issues if there're a lot of models from Panasonic and Leica in the 4/3 forum.

However, if you look at the 4/3 forum section, most of the posts are about Olympus cameras and just for a small number of 4/3 models from other companies, Olympus branding becomes secondary.

Even people are asking about Olympus strap in the 4/3 forum.

The Olympus Section is Home Of Olympus but there is no one home at Home of Olympus.

Olympus section: 11 Olympus thread.
4/3 section: 29 Olympus thread and only 1 leica thread for page 1.

About why I didn't shift - I considered the E-3 banner at the top - "The New Olympus E-3" and thought it would be more, er, palatable for the moment if the thread existed in the Olympus sub-forum.

I'm thinking of some solution to this - if the Olympus sub-forum was embedded into the FourThirds forum - BUT at the same time leaving the Olympus name in the forum header, would it be better?

Let me hear your opinions guys.

The system has been set and let's keep it that way guys.

4/3 encompass all things Four Thirds, and this allows resources to be consolidated. From Olympus cameras to the other consortium partners... whether are they having a large presence now or not... at least this is a place where all the 4/3 DSLR information are centralised.

Took a while for this migration to happen and I would rather not confuse more people with another moving of the forums and such.

Olympus section will be kept to their non DSLR (non 4/3) products and moderators will move stuff to the right section with the link kept in the Olympus section when the need arises. OK? This way the newbie will find their way there sooner or later.
