I am thinking of buying Microsoft Office Visio from the eBay as I found quite a few which are selling at a good price.

Is this a good idea?

Make sure it is authentic.

I bought some DVDs recently and they all turned out to be bootleg DVDs....ie...pirated.

Read the auction description carefully and ask the seller to verify if the software on sale is authentic.

Hey thanks.
But if it is from a reputable seller it should be quite safe right?

Nope. it's very easy to fake the reputation, and if you have 10,000 happy pirated DVD buyers you can easily get 10,000 good reviews.

It's a very simple analogy.

If the price is too good to be true, then it's mostly fake items.

Things like pirated DVDs, unless you are looking for a collectors edition, i suggest you buy it from a local eBay seller in Singapore or get it online from Amazon.com

So far the worst kind of seller is those who want to sell brand new laptops/camera for USD200-300. Just ask them a very simple question on where is the actual product. From there itself you will know that it's a scam.

If you are buying original software for ebay, do note that some software licenses are not transferable. Even if you have the original package, if the seller already registered the software, you are not licensed to use it.

For your information.

Yes I am aware of this. But if they state it is unopen and brand new?

Never compare price before. Is it better to get from Amazon?
