Passion as in Passion in Teaching? Passion in Arts , Passion in photography etc etc?
It is quite abstract but you could think in line of capturing a person doing his/her act with his utmost attention and interest. Try to frame it with that person together with his mentee in their most absorbing way. It is difficult I know.

Kudos for his courage to try something less conventional.
That is LOVE! Its different from Passion.
You don't go and tell your gf that " I am Passionate with you. " do you?
"Passion - strong sexual desire", it is different from LOVE, though there may be LOVE element in it. What JerrySH suggested could work........
Anyway, "Passion" also means intense sexual love. So you may actually tell your gf that "i am passionate about you/" though she may not know what exactly you are looking for....
